Hi guys! So I'll be graduating soon and by the time I do I'll definitely have enough to move comfortably to another state. I'm looking for a very hippie town with strong spiritual/new age undercurrents in it. In fact, I want to live in a place where I can't throw a rock without hitting a flower child singing kumbaya :D. Organic farmers markets, vegan restaurants, yoga centers, etc... the whole 9 yards. Any recommendations?

I'm currently thinking of ojai, california (because I generally like warm weather but I'm willing to move to a cold place if necessary).

    Other places are:
    eugene, or
    manitou springs, co
    boulder, co
    asheville, nc

Any thoughts or places to consider? Thanks in advance!

It'd be great (and probably cheaper in the long run) to move to another country. I suppose my main concern would be the initial language barrier. I'm not opposed to putting in the work if the place is really worth it though.

I agree Mandarin is one of the toughest language to learn but for the types of stuff you're interested, China is your best bet to truly experience(and learn as well) all the Ancient magick elements like Chi and such..

Try Nimbin - it's a town West of Byron Bay, in Australia.

I've been there several times and it's the perfect place for you - trust me, you would fit right in.

Huh! I'll look up more on it.
LOL, I sense a hint of derision in your post but I'll definitely look into it.

    Not at all.

Your lifestyle is your choice. If you look up Nimbin I think you'll find my suggestion was absolutely spot on for you.

If Australia is a bit far for you, you could also try Antigua in Guatemala - that's a great place to plot up for a few months and meet a really eclectic group of travellers.

Kho Pha Ngan in Thailand used to be the top 'hippie' hang out, but it started losing its charm 20 years ago and slowly became a tourist trap - in its day it was great though.

Thank you mate :), will definitely look into it. Oregon seems like a pretty awesome place.

Fair enough, Nimbin certainly looks very interesting - a little heavy on the mind altering substances (not that I judge anyone for doing what they want with their body) but I'll research it more.

Interesting you'd mention Guatemala, there were a few very famous meditative retreats in the region - I'll have to look up exactly where. Yeah a place to hunker down and improve on what I've learned so far would really be ideal. Being surrounded by people who actually know these things better than I do would be like living in heaven to me.
That's largely a tourist destination, with very little to add to what I already know :).

GOA ! At least you should visit it. It's raw hippy culture. If you believe in 'psychedelia' even better..

There are a few of them, Antigua being one.

Flores is another great town in Guatemala - it's a town on a lake near Tikal.

Actually, Tikal is spectacular - if you ever get a chance to watch the sun rising over the jungle canopy whilst sitting on the top of Temple IV, that'll be a moment you will never forget.

Sounds very beautiful :D, and something I'd like very much to do in the near future. I seem to remember that black room meditation retreats: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_retreat are more common in central and south America than most other places on earth - not exactly sure why.

I just feel like I'm living a double life here deep in the southern bible belt. I do love VA but I would like to move to a place where there are many people who are like me so that if any complications occur, I can have a community to fall back on and talk to - not just online. Plus I'm a strong believer in the power of group work. In fact about a week ago I did a meditation with a club here and I felt a faster rise in... my things... than I usually do when I'm solo practicing.

Also it was great to get feedback from everyone else in the group. What was funny was we were supposed to be concentrating on our hearts but I decided to focus everything into my head (because it's my favorite.. area) and it was amazing. The great thing is that afterwards, everyone was talking about how they all felt it in their heads - not their hearts like they had been instructed to do. I love being with people like me and getting constant validation that makes me know I'm not alone and free floating. That's mostly why I want to move.
