I've frequented these forums quite a while, and I've seen quite a few clever CL methods. I've recently started to look for a roommate. I actually posted an ad just to see what sort of responses I'd get, and I already got 5 responses. I'm assuming they are legit, but just wanted to know if people looking for roommates could potentially get tricked into an IM tactic. I'm sure I've been around here long enough to recognize one, but just curious if there are some I don't know about.

I know I could probably get people to do a credit card score offer for those who are interested.

Also, if anyone knows any other methods to finding a roommate, that would be greatly appreciated too.

    Dear seller,
I am highly interested in your room for rent. My father in Nigeria will be wiring the deposit + $500 for your commissions.

Am I allowed to post responses here? I got an e-mail that already seems like a set up to a scam. I told the lady the room wouldn't be available until October, and she quickly responded with a very lengthy e-mail saying she could pay and move in at the end of the month. E-mail was way too long to be typed immediately. Seems like an automated message.

Well anything of this sort would be too blackhat for my taste, but you can always tell them you had a bad experience with a room mate that was too irresponsible and that you need a credit report from them(insert credit report off)

On the contrary i have had some luck with CL. My recomendation be upfront in your post. If your anal about cleanliness, say it in your post. Don't wait till later. At the start you can turn people off from applying, but when they move in its a whole different story.
