I'm looking to create my first linkwheel, but I was curious. Does hosting your own WP blog work better for rank than one of the blogs hosted on WP's servers? I'm speaking in terms of the spokes.

    Thanks!

In terms of the spokes your really looking for quick indexing and leaching off the ranking and authority of the hosts.

So use your own high quality, keyword rich domain name for the center and a bunch of whore hosts for your 'spokes'.

aReJay, is such a linkwheel only good for indexing? I'm assuming that it can be used for ranking purposing as well.

    Anyone:
Is a linkwheel strategy, along with a BL poster, good for ranking? Are there other strategies which work better? If so, what are they (no need for details, as I'm not looking for someone to give up the specifics of their methods)?

    Thanks.

I'm sure numerous people rely on link wheeling for backings and eventual rankings. The way I (an my team) use link wheels is simply to 'get in the game'.

    A link wheel will:
    Get your site indexed
Build an initial set of links
Demonstrate how competitive a niche is
Gain a small amount of revenue
Get your a high ranking in a weak niche
    Look like potential spamming
Teach you about critical elements of SEO

    Link Wheeling will not:
    Make you a million dollars
    Make you a SEO guru
    Dominate for any worthwhile keywords
    Gain you new SEO clients
Help you star in a Porno

Okay. Yeah, I'm not necessarily looking to do this exclusively, and I'm looking to ease into it. Like I said, I've been an emailer for several years, and I make plenty that way. Actually, SEO was going to be something I was considering using to bring potential subscribers on board for signups.

    Thanks for your help.

Fair enough, as a summary statement; link wheeling will probably work fine as long as you are working in a small enough (or uncompetitive enough) niche.
