With long tail keywords, it seems as if my site ranks #1 or #2 for a search, but then it disappears.
This repeatedly happens with a lot of my organic search traffic. It appears in my stats, but by the time I see it and go do the search myself on the engine, my site is nowhere to be found in the serps.

It's called the honeymoon. Some are shorter than others. ;-)

Once the honeymoon is over is when the real fun starts. Back those long tails up with some off page SEO if you did the on-page stuff right. You are doing the basics like 1.5-2% KW density, keyword in title close to the beginning, in url and in description, right? You have some H1 and H2 tags on the page with kws in there? If you have the on-page basics covered then support the page with some off-page stuff. You'll see it climb back up.

Also if this is a new website, Google will make you work for everything.

Are pages indexing quickly? Do you see googlebot daily? Some indicators on whether Google likes what it sees. If you're only seeing Googlebot once a week or so you need to drip more content.

Make a few articles, toss them on some Web 2 properties and link the page up that you're trying to move up. Not sure what's in your arsenal of tools but that won't take you but an hour or so and doesn't require any tools.

I don't expect a lot from websites until the 6 month mark. Sounds like Google is going to make you earn those ranks. It's happens so get busy on some off page stuff to show support for the page. Google will come around if you get the page some support. Not all pages will rank high with just on-page techniques.

I'm using GSA and UD for offiste. Mostly GSA these days. I should probably add another campaign because I'm still doing the same old keywords from 3 months ago (it has not appeared to help at all w/ rankings). Most of the rankings I see are long tail searches.

I post about ever 3-4 days.
