*DISCLAIMER* This is an extensive read for an extensive and ambitious project (not only ambitious on the profit part).
I'm not responsible for any damage if you fall asleep while reading this post.
    :ranger:

I just got this idea and it clicked in me really really fast. See, I recently got approved to enter into a top university starting mid-August and I'm leaving my town alone, no family. I would've never seen coming this huge opportunity six months ago (getting into this uni) so I thought: I'm entering to a really great and popular university, gonna live kind-of-alone for years and struggle with little-money & bad food like a lot of other students do all over the country and the world, so I should make the most out of this.

Long story short: I plan on making a personal blog about college life and its struggles, experiences, opportunities, funny ideas and things that happen, places to visit in the city where I'm going to live and whatnot.

    • What I want to get out of this journey:
My original idea was and is to create a place where I could put to work my passion for telling stories, giving a different perspective of things and helping people, giving useful and trascendent information to them. Obviously all this focused to write about stuff that happens while you're trying to get a degree.

I am not a person who likes to record everything or takes lots of selfies either, but it's also interesting knowing I can keep a record of this experience so I can remember it forever. I'm excited of starting college, I think it's gonna be part of the best time of my life.

Also, although I mainly do this for the personal reward, I know being a consistent and quality blogger is extremely time consuming so I want this to bank, I want to monetize my life, and I want to eliminate the risk of having to get a part-time job to live better (I think I'm gonna need around $400 a month to live in here). One of the first things I thought about this project was that it would be very hard to find monetization methods aside from Adsense or some advertising network, but it doesn't have to be that way. I have to be smart and innovate, after all that ambition got me here in the first place.

    • What to write about?
This is the hardest part for any blogger, and not only the what but the how. I need to write quality and interesting posts with close-to-perfect grammar about relevant topics, relatable experiences and using an active and cool writing style. I know my English is lacking but fortunately it isn't my native language, I'll be writing in Spanish and thank God I'm much better that way. P.S. I need to get better in English as this university demands a high level of proficiency.

The first thing that popped out was: What am I thinking? This idea sounds cheesy as hell. And in fact, it is kind of cheesy, you know, writing about your life experiences and feelings? on a blog, well maybe it's because I'm a man. But then I thought that I should expand the idea, make some twists (and hopefully I'll keep giving this some twists) and then when I thought about making posts and articles like "10 things you wished you had learned before going to college". Looks more attractive and like it could catch the eye of users and bring visitors. Still cheesy? Maybe, but it sure can work and convert while getting me proud of my work! :)

    • Monetization ideas:

    These thoughts about Affiliate promotion:
If you were a professional soccer player blogging about your life you could write about rituals and other things you do to keep focused and motivated before a match and stuff like that. So if you wanted to monetize about a post like that maybe you would promote a brand of headphones you use (obviously being paid by said brand), and in the case of not famous people like me, they could throw in an Amazon or another kind of affiliate link to promote a quality product once you build some audience.

    SEO and visitors:
About getting visitors that don't come from social media, it's possible to write articles about popular topics and then optimize them and rely on social shares and (blog posts? insert here another form of natural backlink building) other things to get the articles and therefore the site ranked). Again if you were a soccer player you could write an article named "5 Tips to Improve Your Concentration". Things like that are constantly looked for on Google. You get the idea.

    Advertising:
Obviously you can throw in Adsense on an authority site like that or use an advertising network paying you a fixed rate. I also dream that some day popular brands targeting 17-25 year olds will come to me and pay me for sponsored reviews of their products and stuff like that. I went way forward in time haha. But it all reduces to one thing: TRAFFIC. Once you get lots of traffic the sky is the limit. You could sell dead monkeys and still convert.

    • What can you expect from this journey?

    1. To be updated constantly. I won't update everyday as I don't have the money yet to pay for a domain and hosting (I'm waiting for a little payment from Sharecash in around 20 days). But I'll start researching more, looking for popular keywords related to the theme of this blog. I'll also start writing content (I think I'm going to outsource that :p) and it will be high-quality using relevant pictures.
    2. I will think of a good name for a domain, it won't be keyword-focused at all, I want to make a brand, to make a name.
    3. Around two weeks before I start classes and around two weeks after I will be posting more often here as that's when I'm going to actually start experiencing things to write about.
    4. To give you information about new experiments, testing, results, stats, etc.

    • More details about this project:

    • I will be kinda anonymous. I mean, I won't worry about hiding my identity but I won't post pictures of me or any personal details or actual names of my friends, teachers, etc. I will see how to go about this when I actually publish the site, but I wouldn't mind everyone knowing who I am if I turn out to be innovative and my content is popular and interesting. I could end up being quite popular for good.
    • I will start working on leveling up my skills with web design and graphic design. I have basic skills but I want to have a deep understanding of the software I use, not just knowing how to crop pictures and throw in a lot of filters. I need a great site and great images if I want this to trascend in a big scale.
    • I need to get a new cell phone with a nice camera, or just a nice camera so I can take pictures of good places, people, etc.
    • It's harder to sell most things online in the non-US market and specially in the spanish third-world market. So I'll need to be smart and work around that.

Apart from keeping motivated I wanted to share this with you because I want to prove myself and you guys that anything can be profitable when you put effort and are passionate of what you do. And I hope at the end of this journey in several months or years we can be able to get to that conclusion. Stable income could be $1/day everyday but even though I won't put a price, I want to earn a decent money out of this, I don't know, maybe the first long-term goal would be to get consistent $100/day and keep growing.

You don't have to dream what I dream, but I know you probably have an ambitious idea on the IM world but you don't know if it's gonna work like I don't know if this is going to work. Let's take that risk together!
It's hard to keep focused and motivated about the same thing for a long time, but I'll try my best to reach my goals!

Another disclaimer: I know nothing about Internet Marketing! I've been reading this forum for about two months, and of course have been on the internet far longer. I have just theories about this working, I also haven't tried other methods besides YT+PPD. I'm not an authority on the subject and instead I would appreciate if you could give me any helpful advice you can think of!

I hate when you guys try to motivate users saying: "There's no reason not to succeed". But that's just me, it sounds awful. :p

You and I will reach our goals. If we work really hard...

    Update 1
Well this is the research part of the project and I'll keep updating this thread to help me remember go back to the basics if I get lost in lots of ideas some time.
I kept thinking about content strategy and details to add to the blog.
I've designed a simple minimalist logo, but I think is powerful enough to start off and be memorable. I also designed social profile pictures based on the logo. Also went to Themeforest and have been looking to lots of themes to buy once I have some money and I already have two to choose from.

My original approach is to write a blog about college experiences and everything related to it: study tactics, choosing a degree, managing leaving your home town, helpful techonology and moocs, etc. In all of this I'll pursue top quality articles featuring my own research doing polls, experiments, using the moocs myself, etc. But I'll also write easy to read stuff about things to do with your free time, TV shows you shouild be watching, etc
I am yet to do a deep keyword research, but I've been searching for potential keywords and forums that can be related to the topic in spanish. I don't really know if there is a big audience to my blog but certainly there aren't many quality forums (there are quality blogs remotely related to mine) where I could start building backlinks, but I'll keep looking. You english-speaking mates are on top of us a lot on internet content.

    Update 2
I am now working on writing articles. This is tough, I have to put a lot of thought into everything I write but when I read the articles they are pretty damn good. I don't have the domain yet, I'll have to wait more. In the meantime I keep reading about SEO and how to build backlinks in a natural way.

Funny, I was just about to start the same thing. My goal from Im is 100/day. I am at about $25 from online shops and ebay and this is after 6 months so maybe by the 24 month mark, I will be there.

I am well aware now that it will be really hard to make a decent profit with this kind of site.
So I might not do it
