Getting backlinks and citations? Doing my first local search campaign with a family business and I am very cautious, researching heavily, and don't want to screw anything up. Saw someone recommend not to feed any links to the sites until the site has 50+ articles.. Is this true of citations as well? What do you guys think of this rule of thumb? Thanks

No, you can start back linking right away. Even with as little as one page of content. The key is to just progressively scale your links over time.

agreed, don't do too many links at once, spread them out and also if you are doing local seo, I recommend ding citation as well!

I agree as well. Drip feed your links, but it's not to early to start. Keep in mind that you are going to want to aim for high quality relevant niche content when publishing your articles to your website.

Thanks for the replies. Citations will be my primary goal for offpage optimization as all I read is that they are the biggest factor in Local SEO. Backlinks are good, but citations are the backlinks of Local SEO apparently.

I was looking at starting out with this service. Is 350 citations on 3 sites new to Google Places too much? Should I slowly scale citations as well? Or the recommendation of "slow drip" is for links only? Is getting all my citations for all my sites from a single provider too conspicuous? Are there any disadvantages to buying citations from a provider like that instead of manually doing them myself?
