    Hey,

I haven't noticed any threads regarding this issue. As you have probably noticed, a new update has been rolled out by google which is listing google places listing before the organic results.

This has rendered the organic results obsolete since the top 5 results seem to be taken by google places.. I think there needs to be a change of strategy required.

Instead of creating local sites and hoping to rent it out, we now need to cold call the local people and offer SEO services I guess.

    Any insight from you guys?

P.S: Just reading around, it seems they are gonna start charging for places listing similar to adwords and the concept will be known as google boost..And now its renamed as adwords express. Currently available in US and UK!

That really doesn't look good, I wanted to start a project based on leasing the website...

Seems to be a lot of changes going on with Places at the moment and they are tweaking the algo every other week.
I have seen some of the adexpress ads show and they are appearing in the spaces currently used by adwords ads. Not quite sure how this will impact on places listings and if they will remove the 'non payers'.

This I think is still a google work in progress although it was quite clear a year ago they were moving to moneytize their places offering.

Also, I have noticed for some of the searches, the places and organic results are mixed which is further fucking it up!

also, they keep messing with the google places algo
I used to be #A for my city, now I am just a small dot and I dont come up in places at all.

yes local is getting DIFFICULT. I am finding that some cities are showing 1-2 organic on TOP of the new places/organic hybrid listing model.

Has anyone found a pattern here of in what city they show 7-pack, hybrid, or other listings? It seems totally random to me.

Everything above the fold is pretty much all paid to be there... This is google using it's power as an "internet search engine" to make more $$, which takes it from a search engine to an ad engine. This is using their household name to deceive future onlookers. We would definitely get booted from adsense if the top half of our page was nothing but ads, but they can do it... I hope some government agency steps up and sticks it to them.

This is going to change SEO for local and it will never be like it was before.

It is time to rethink the strategy for best monetizing our future work.

This is not at all true. I am ranking my site both organically as #1 for my keyword "blank blank blank phoenix" (blank = the rest of my keyword), and my Google places listing for the business is #2 in the search results. Use a different page then your home page for your Google Maps listing so you can rank twice!

That is the point bro. You cant start a site, rank it and then expect to rent it out. You have to find a customer first, submit a places listing,SEO work for both places and organic results

You can still rank the site first, rent it out and upsell on G. Places as part of your package / mandatory ingredient for success.
