I found a really nice keyword related to local real estate and registered a domain for it. The problem is I know nothing about real estate.

My plan for the moment is just to rent out ad space to 3 or 4 realtors for (hopefully) a few hundred dollars a month. But I'd really like to know how to incorporate home listings into a site and how you even make money doing that.

I've been googling for a few hours now and am not much better off than when I started. From my searching I understand there is some sort of listing feed called MSL but everything I can find is just confusing me more.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Here comes a double post

For anyone interested in doing the same think here's what I've found out:

MLS is basically only for realtors/brokers and is pretty useless if you're not one (I think)

It's illegal for a non-licensed individual to sell leads based on a percentage of commission (I think)

New plan is to contact local realtors who are willing to work with me on a per lead basis, list their properties, and take it form there. I've never really done anything like this before but hopefully it works out.

I might be able to give you some advice if you are looking to rank in google locally or just go to the buy section of this site and get the local google maps purchase - that should help you tremendously

Hey thanks, I have that maps course but I haven't watched anything but the intro yet. My main keyword phrase doesn't actually have a maps box but it can't hurt to do a little extra work.

That was my original plan but I guess I convinced myself that realtors wouldn't be as willing to pay for just a link to their site as they would for listings of their properties. Of course real estate agents are advertising whores so I don't know. I'm too drunk to make any business decisions tonight so maybe I'll think it over tomorrow.,

Find a real estate partner and sell the leads or split commissions on houses sold. This is gold, trust me...

I think the rules will vary depending on the area, but I know for a fact it is possible to gain access to an MLS feed and build a site around it. You'll definitely want to check the rules of the MLS you are interested in, but I do know there are ones you can tap into.

well...I have several sites that are locally focused. did a jv with a broker, got a little upfront with an agreement to get a 'marketing fee' for each home sold.
short story is the broker sold 12 homes through the site, owed me 24k , and bailed. even with a signed agreement,, attorney said to pass.

so be careful and get some upfront.
