I noticed when searching for profitable keywords, we usually hunt for those within minimum 1000 + over $1 CPC

Suppose I want to open up my own local seo business, and trying to focus ranking 'local search terms'. (keywordcityname.com) - what is a acceptable search volume for it?

I notice most of those keyword+cityname terms dont have over 1000 and CPC might not be a big factor since they will be targeting local business anyways. (renting out ad spaces or renting out the entire site).

    Please advise. Thanks

I think it doesn't matter if the keyword is low search volume and if the CPC is low since you're just renting out a space on your website. As long as you get your website in first page and probably on the first 5 positions, then that's all business owners will care about.

I never spend time to kw with less than 2K exact. Even you are on page 01 with low search kw, the earning is now much.

I tend to pick whatever related local keywords I got in that particular niche.

I even do 200 searches keyword, the most important thing is the sites traffic more related keywords=more traffic=more leads=site has more value.

low search keywords = low competition. :)
    med/high searches keywords = high competition. :)

Although this stands true, but I have found some keywords that 'sound' good, but with very low searches - something below 100. Now even if i get that search term on #1, i dont think the owner will be happy with the result?

For example; "lightingfixturecityname.com" sounds good, i think this will attract a lot of lighting fixture stores/small business, but the search volume is less than 100 etc.

(keep in mind, the above is just an example)

I agree and I know what you meant from your perspective, but is that how offline business owners' look at it?

    For example, if;

'personal injury lawyer cityname' has 200 search volume
'cheap lawyer cityname' has 1000 search volume

will they prefer 'cheap lawyer cityname' over 'personal injury lawyer cityname'. I think 'cheap' doesnt sound too good to them, they might think its non-targeted leads etc. Well of course, from our perspective, we tend to go with the higher search volume one - thats no brainer.

Just wondering how offline business owners think.

I took recently a lawyer client where the searches combined still had very low exact searches.

But if you get to rank like a authority who ranks for also various long-tail keywords, you come nearer to the broad-match search amount.

    What is better?
15.000 searches for Albanian Mp3 music OR
    500 searches for lawyer stuff?

Of course the 500 searches, because even 1 new client always turns into +1,000€
Whereas the Albanian mp3 site makes with all these searches only $200 a month ;)

    Thanks for the helpful info.
So where would you find 'other keywords' (or I shall say 'secondary keywords' related to it? Any advice will be appreciated.
