I'm running some seo campaigns for local businesses and its seems less and less important now a days. Google local listings are just taking over, and companies not listed aren't getting any exposure.

A couple of the keywords I'm working on have switched from the smaller compact listings to the ones where each map listing gets an actual ranked spot. Now its near impossible for me to get ranked. Anybody else seeing the same thing? Any ideas on how to leapfrog those listings and take the #1 spot? Is that even possible?

I've been telling you all this for months but no one listens.
Marketing local businesses is not all about SEO it's about Marketing.
You may be an expert in SEO but all that makes you is cog in the wheel.

I agree oxonbeef that's just the surface. You can connect clients and have them cross, sell, wrap up cars, printing, branding, etc.

yeah i agree, it is a lot harder for local results to rank. you're better off just listing in every local directory possible like yelp citysearch etc

I've been saying this for awhile..but google will be taking more and more que's to rank a commercial site on how much buzz is generated by it in the web 2.0 sphere.

    I isn't in:
1# Untapped local niches, not the typical one's like restaurant / hotel
    2# In Germany :D

Yet, you can optimize restaurants & hotels aswell -> QR-Codes
Oxonbeef should know that better, than anyone else.

I was about to write a post on this. Google has recently devalued citations from third parties. Not sure exactly how to get local listing at the moment to be honest

Has anyone tried the automated citation builders like lblrobot?

I couldn't have said it better.

Marketing your SEO services to physical businesses is not only about SEO.

In fact, I can tell you from experience, physical businesses don't really care about SEO, social marketing, FB fanpages, Google Places listings, or any of the technical stuff.

All physical business want is more buying customers, and if you are trying to market your services to physical businesses, you should focus on showing them how you are going to increase their buying customer base instead of telling them about the technical stuff that will bring in those customers.

To follow up with that, one of the best cost/feature benefit you could possibly provide to a storefront brick and mortar is the ability to manage opt ins and follow ups. You think that stuff just works online with ebooks and online marketing? Now blow that open to exposing the store owner how he can periodically send out blasts and reach his list over and over again.

You think it's a fluke that groupon is as big as it is? Look at THEIR email blasts...
