:lmao: :lmao: I cannot believe this has happened to me but I always store all my passwords in notepad etc... and I had this .com domain name that I wasn't really using so I was going to give it away to someone for free since it had over 8 months left and guess what? I deleted the folder which had all the details to the domain because I wasn't going to use it any more and with that went all the login details to the email account, domain registrar etc... the funny thing is that I used fake details so I cannot recover it... :lmao: :lmao: I feel so stupid now... :pcguru:

So you can't even remember the domain name?

Rule 1 with computers - BACKUP! You need at least 1 backup of your whole drive and 2 for anything important like that. Seriosly its not worth the hastle you can invest in a cheap 80gb external hard drive for about $40 and I garuantee that its worth it.

You can recover the folder, its not such a big problem. When you delete something its just shifted to another part of your hard drive until that space needs to be overwritten. There are a lot of programs that do that type of recovery. Check on some w4rez forms :D

Shade, buy a portable flash drive (or extra HD, or portable HD) and then put all your "secret" info on it and when you need something, just pop it into the pc and bam.. you got it. Its very helpful... esp. in cases like this one. lol

I might be paranoid  but I have an external drive with a fresh (twice a week) backup of all my admin info, my needed soft and backups of my sites stored away at a different place than my home.

Just in case the place gets cleaned out by burglars, blown away, burned down, taken over by aliens or whatever.

Download "RecoverMyFiles" (portable will do). I guess it was a txt file? Run a "Complete File Search" for .txt files only.

Before you ask, yes, you'd lucky if worked. I was able to recover my documents that I accidentally overwrote.

Yeah it's funny yet stupid though. But yeah it's just the password for that domain if I lost all my domains I would be in a shock. :D

I don't send it to the trash can at all, I hold shift and then delete because I cannot be bothered to later clean out the trash can. :p

I do backup it was just this one domain that I didn't really need. :)
I won't be going into the hassle of trying to recover it because I lost the folder quite a while ago and I don't really care about this it's just the fact that the domain could of been used and now it's wasted.

I'd sooner find out my passwords using a brute forcer than trying to find documents on my external HD's lol, they are such a mess with so much duplicate data.

Does anyone know any applications that are good for data backup? I backup my data often but I simply make a new folder saying July1 backup and then I end up with hundreds of duplicate files, I cannot really see a way around this without deleting the old backups but I have things on the old backups that weren't on the new backups that I still want to keep. It gets confusing lol

The best backup is you, your mouse and your keyboard. Software can sometimes disappoint you and get you screwed over. :)
