Alright, this made my day. I'm sure some of you guys will have a laugh.

I was at work today when I got a call from Google. I thought oh man, they hate affiliates, they think ill of me, they want to know whats up with these offers on my campaigns.

I actually paused my ppc campaigns to focus on cpm based campaigns on POF and Lead Impact, the ROI is just insane compared to Bing where I couldn't convert much, and adwords where all the cost just didn't make sense. I thought it was a scam but that didn't make sense because he knew my # which I don't give out easily, he knew my campaign, and he knew the Clickbank product I was promoting, ok this guy is legit.

Do you know what he tells me? He called because he noticed that my campaign was paused and not spending and was wondering if I'd give adwords another try on that campaign. When I mentioned that I moved onto better sources of traffic, he gave me an offer that I couldn't refuse. Coupon + 1 on 1 consultation promoting the Clickbank product lol. He sounded smart, professional, I'm sure he knew I was an affiliate marketer but treated me like I'm an agency.

I thought for sure Google hated Clickbank, so I already minimized my risk by finding a Clickbank product that doesn't seem too shady and has a high converting written landing page, videos were too shady when reviewed, I had 1 account suspended for that, but even then I was afraid of a human actually reviewing this account, it's just funny that the complete opposite happened. My landing page is killer and pretty professional, that prob helped build the trust.

He actually booked a hangouts session with me this afternoon, walked me through exactly what I could do to increase clicks and reduce cpc, and literally used my campaign specifically. I couldn't believe google was spending money and time helping me make money....I gotta say I thought I knew adwords ppc pretty damn well, but what he walked me through got me 6 sales tonight, ~$115 total, ~$85 profit, I'm pretty happy right now. On my best day I made 3 sales with the same offer before pausing on adwords. Time to scale out.

Has anyone else experienced this recently? I'm guessing this is not common but I'm wondering if this is a recent thing or a super rare occurrence. I don't usually get this lucky.

What kind of tips did he share with you that you didn't knew about before?
Maybe it could benefit others :)

How much were you spending daily before pausing the adwords campaign?

Google will help you with setting up your campaign if you ask. No matter your business size. But my experience is they don't do a very good job.

I've never heard them calling advertisers to help so this is new. They'll call (email really) those who are Partners with information on accounts and offer to call you if you want. As a Partner, I've had that happen often. Maybe they figure reaching out to paused accounts is a good thing.

Your post should help put a rest to the myth that they don't like affiliates. One question: are you using your own site or linking directly to the offer? The other myth of course being that you can't direct link.

You can direct link but not to websites that violate their policy. All it takes is a read through their terms and policy and you'll be safe.

He did offer to set up campaigns for me, but I figure this will be back charged to me, so I decided not to take up the offer.

Google is still king in ppc, im back on making decent $ with it. Pretty happy.

They won't charge you for setting things up for you. But like I said, it's a gamble. You may get a great person who knows what they are doing or you may not. My advise is learn to do it (you'll need to if you want to improve) or get a professional like me. You'll pay of course but may be well worth it with campaigns producing great ROI and removes the burden of doing it yourself which of course can be a cost saving.

A lot of affiliate marketers are just new comers and their sites and stuff promote are pretty shady and lame. If you can keep up on professional level you are OK to go.

You have really great experience :) Scale it up and bank harder !

Why would google charge nothing and set up campaigns for people...I still don't get this. The opportunity cost for them seems strange. The guy spent 1 hr of his time just on the first session.

Maybe I can enlighten your day a little bit :)

Google has a part called NBS (New Business Sales) and under this lies a part called SMB (Small Medium Business). What it is really about is acquisition of new accounts. There are different rules for different countries for an account to be valid for the sales reps working in this area. For example a new account that has not spent for a longer period than 14 days.

If you have a "valid" account according to the rules then you are qualified for their service (and therefore also a coupon).
Let me guess, he asked to link to your account (even though he ofcourse could see everything in it, and yes he can, including shitloads more). This is so he can say he "serviced" you and get your account in his portfolio. I am not 100% sure about the rules in every country, but usually he gets to account your spend for a maximum of around 20 weeks, the periods are usually between 1-20 weeks service. They are all based on your budget, oppurtunity of spending that budget.

As someone mentioned before it is really about luck what rep you get. But if you want to increase you chances of getting someone good then by all means join the google partner program. If not for getting a better rep (which is sales) you can atleast get a hold of a campaign specialst if you start delivering accounts. The later should know what they are doing and if nothing else they can get you past the numerous obstacles that might pop up because of the automated systems with ease, especially if you keep on coming with new accounts. Remember, they want the spend as much as you do :)

If you found a good rep/specialst and they managed to make you money then by all means stick to them, not only can you brainstorm with them but they have all the means in the world to make you adwords life much easier.

You don't have to pay them to optimize your campaigns. Sometimes they get it right, other time they don't. As long as you run compliant stuff you can call them any time, ask questions, or make them fix campaigns that ain't working.

I'm really surprised after reading all of this, I thought that Google was less communicative regarding this kind of topics. Good to know that they actually care.

WoW!! 'G' sure did get a lot of free publicity on this post... but, I'm sure glad you made some bucks. You can share if you want to, but some don't. I'd keep this guy on file if you need any more help ;) He'll be calling back -- maybe you could get something lined up that he can further help you with... hint, hint.

Adwords work differently in different countries. In relatively newer regions (usually with low sales figures) they go for a lot of promotional efforts by doling out coupons and by cold calling.(they call you even if you never ran an adwords campaing through their local partners) these calls are usually made to small and medium business owners.

They do call people who have stopped running their campaigns after running them for some time to encourage them to start spending again :) Irrespective of their spends or niche.

It dosent really matter what the campaign was about. it the camapign is/was not suspended they will you out.
Although these guys are basic entry level experts as far as marketing goes. They are good enough with adwords campaign setup but not very bright in terms of how to market. (just my experience although there might be some who could be very good)

Congrats that it turned out so good for you.
    Cheers!

This sounds little too good to be true, I have never heard of Google calling anyone so this is first lol. Anyway I wish you the best of luck in how everything turns out.

That is odd and lucky, isn't having LP's with affiliate links against their ToS?

I swear Google are all over the place with their policies and practices.
