I'm watching Barcelona at the moment and just seen Messi score his 233rd goal for Barcelona and become the all time highest goalscorer for Barcelona. This lad is very special and still only 24 years old.

Take a look at his second goal in tonights game when it appears on Youtube, pure magic.

I feel very lucky to have been alive during the era of Maradona and now Messi.

And what I like about him is that he's so normal. A real decent guy which is quite rare in sport these days. Well done Messi :congrats:

I think we're probably witnessing the best there's ever been - he does need to win a world cup though...

    He's just got a third.

I'm beginning to think he's going to be the greatest ever too. My only concern is his international form. He's playing in a very good side with Barcelona and that's an understatement! Would he do so well for say Newcastle?

Maradona went to Napoli who were a very poor side and made them into champions. Twice I think. And he won the world cup with them single handedly (scuse the pun!).

Would Maradona be scoring as many goals in this Barcelona team. It's very likely.

Anyway Messi has probably two more World Cups to prove he is the greatest of all time. I hope he does.

It is frankly unbelieveable, it's not like he's an out and out poacher either - there must be a lot of assists too. If this happened to a player on my copy of Football Manager 2012, I would slate the game for being unrealistic. City should pay him £100m! We'd have him at Reading - needed him tonight.

Messi is great but Xavi is the mastermind who stays out of the spotlight.

Take nothing away from Messi though, he is a genius and what a milestone at a young age.

Yes, this is true. Messi make us happy by now and will become a legend in the future. But I'm sure that Xavi will be "the Guardiola of the future" because he knows how it works, and Messi only plays, without think about anything.

    easy league though
    just like the Scottish league
2 good teams, then the rest.

have messie play 2/3 seasons in the
bpl then if he still score like that
    then hes the best

I haven't seen his goals tonight and will look out for them but his five goals a couple of weeks ago were incredible.

I've always been a Maradona fan in the Maradona V Pele debate but it looks like a 3 way debate these days because Messi brings something different to any consideration as to the greatest footballer of all time.

Actually Reading produced the greatest player of all time, but very few were lucky enough to see him! His name was Robin Friday. I was lucky enough to see him play. Seriously great talent, but completely crazy and lasted just 4 years and died in squalor at the age of 38 in 1990.

My old man used to drag me along to Elm Park when I was a lad. When Reading were in the old fourth and 3rd division. I was watching the likes of Richie Bowman, Steve Death and the great I went to the opening game for the Madeski stadium too. However when Spurs brought over Ardiles and Villa in 78 I became a Spurs fan but still hold affection for Reading!

You two are very, very lucky. What I'd give to see him play, just once :)

Proxygo- I get the point you make but trying to compare Spanish Primera Liga with Scottish Premier League is like comparing Rembrandt with Rolf Harris.

Glad to see Messi Mania get BHW too. this player is unbelievable, and so simple. looking at him playing you have the feeling that playing soccer is so easy. He is doing things easily, naturally differently as humans do.

Did you just watch the team 34 points behind Real Madrid destroy Man Utd in two games? The top 6 in Spain would finish in the top 6 in the English league too. BTW Barcelona is mainly young Spanish players. We English have to buy in our talent and it's still not good enough.

I'm a Tottenham fan and we've had a great season and played some great football. But still, we're not as good as Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, Levante, Malaga, Barcelona or Real Madrid.

The 2 teams only arguement in Spain is misplaced. It's because they are so good that the others look poor. But when you see those teams behind the top 2 dispatching our finest you realize they aren't so bad either.

Or maybe our best teams are really crap, which is more likely.

By the time Messi finishes his career, Pele and Maradona will be classed a level below.

Can't wait to see Pele eat his words, the cunt.

I think it's just been a bit of weird season in Europe for our teams. Barca and Madrid are the best two I would say, but our boys are not too far behind - especially on their day.
