Linkedin Advice: Overcoming my denial

I have been hiding under a rock. Philosophical reasons kept me away from SMM but it’s a huge mistake. I have decided that it’s time to create and optimise my Linkedin Persona. Can you help me understand the easiest and most effective way to start?

I have something of value to share.
I have a target audience.
I want to focus on personal for now but eventually market my business.

I have 3 major questions (links would be great):

1. What are the best grey hat techniques in 2020? Where is the line between boosting effectiveness and long term staying power?

2. What content will give me the best bang for my effort? Videos? Guides? Infographics?

3. How do I hire someone to create an optimal strategy and structure for success? What questions should I ask and what budget do I need?

Thanks for your help and experiences.

My opinion about Linkedin is that people overestimate the power of adding contacts and underestimate the power of profile building and keyword selecting to create content.

My first advice is to make sure you profile looks good, like, really good not just providing enough information but adding as much content as you can to show people (and the algorithm that you have authority regarding to the subject you work with).

A few steps to organize you profile are:
- Choose wisely the keywords and competences you are going to fight for (linkedin work is very similar to SEO work)
- Make sure you add a legit website/blog and link them inside your profile
- Add blog posts to your page
- Slideshare is a company owned by Linkedin, so everytime you add slideshare links to your page you get more attention (transform your ppt into slideshare and add to your page)
- If you are an agency or freelancer make a Behance Portifolio and link to the page!
- Add Case studies and other midia (photos, documents etc) that are related to your business
- Make sure that you have good examples for each Work Experience you had (add facts, videos, pictures etc)
- Ask people to refer you if you have at least 5 referrals it can make a big difference

Also you need to understand that Linkedin is different from other platforms. Articles and long format texts are highly appreciated and follow same guidelines do build them as SEO guidelines.

If you add value to other people's lives and stop the Spam/ Boring HR posts probably you will get a lot of attenct
LinkedIn is awesome for business.

The BEST strategy is to completely optimize your profile. It should be maxed out with the keywords, etc. that you want to be targeted for.

Join groups.

Post every 2 days...post very very helpful but short information. Article summaries with a link to your article off LinkedIn work very well as do infographics. Add a line like "follow me for more info"

Get past 500 contacts as soon as possible.

Hunt down and pad your email list with the contacts you want to connect with.

Get a LinkedIn scraper tool and an automated toolto help you prospect. There are awesome ones in the market place.

Get your bhw post number up. Buy VIP status and post on hire a freelancer to develop your strategy or just search for more info on the site... or as me mire questions.

Best of luck , u can do it :)

Truely epic reply. Thanks.

What's the best way to find target keywords? Are there any specific tools?

I personally like to use Neil Patel's website...its free and solves my necessities! But google "Keyword search" for Linkedin and you might find very good information!

Thanks, it's not easy to find this level of quality information.
Any other resources?

Man you have a lot of questions!

Check your DM. Let's connect. I love teaching people like you :D

Here's an idea...

Be smart about the connections you add.

Look at their activity before you send a connection request.

How often do they comment and like other people's posts?

UI Scenario 1: Profile Views
When a person views someone's profile, it shows their recent activity... you want your post to show up here, so you want to connect with people who are in the habit of commenting on other people's posts, they may be more likely to comment on yours

Nick's profile page doesn't currently give anyone else direct exposure

Matt Schachter is giving Rob Storey a bit of exposure... at least until he shares 2 more items .

The feed is probably more important as most people spend their time scrolling their feed, not looking at profiles.

UI Scenario 2: The Feed

This is my feed. Muhammad, a 1st connection, loved a post by Jasmeet, 2nd connection of mine. If I now like this post by Jasmeet, maybe LinkedIn will display this post in the feed of a few of my 1st connections. Muhammad is a valuable connection for Jasmeet, and likely for me as well.

A connection may have 100K followers, but if they do not engage with other people's content then they are worthless to you (because they are unlikely to engage with your content)

I can't speak to the effectiveness because this is a strategy I am just starting with.

Interesting point of view that I'd considered but thought too time consuming.

How do actually build an audience that VALUES your content?
