Linkbuilding

Auto = Faster, less value
Manual = Slower, more value

I'm excluding blog comments and profile links. Those you might as well just do with software.

When it comes to posting articles on web 2.0 sites and article directories and creating a link pattern to your site, then manual is always better but takes longer.

Sorry but I have to disagree .
Auto can be really good if who ever using the bots and software knows what he is doing . Also , I don t how much time it takes to post to 700+ article directories but it takes a short time with automation and the articles sticks in there :)
So Automation is really a time saver and can be good if someone knows what he is doing :)
Cheers

All I can say is not from my results. When I go and setup web 2.0 sites I can SEO them instead of having generic sites which look fake and get flagged. Not to mention I can set up a way better linking structure.

As far as article directories goes, most of those directories are worthless. Hit the big ones with quality articles and then blast those with backlinks. The big ones a lot of times will remove crappy articles.

I have been testing this stuff for months on extremely tough niches and ranking sites in top positions with 100M+ competition. What I have found is that automation works great for tier 2+ sites but for tier 1 sites you should do it manually and focus in on solid SEO.

I would suggest building a network of web2.0's that are hand made, quality, unique content, filled with full profiles and themes, photos, etc. Put some work into getting them top notch, then use an automation tool to blast these properties.

Link Building is an active program that increases the number of inbound links into a web site or cross-linking within a web site in order to increase that site's placement in the search engine rankings for specific keywords. I think both auto & manual are important..

I guess it depends on things like the site age, what you're going to use to build links, how many etc...
