Doing things manually is undoubtedly boring; it's when you see everything that you used to do manually fly by your eyes in a matter of minutes/seconds that you can enjoy it. As was mentioned, if you haven't yet become acquainted with some of the automated tools that are out there, namely SB and AMR, outsourcing is probably your best option. There are a lot of great services out there for blog commenting, profile-making, article submission, etc. Do your research before you make your choices, though. No sense in throwing away money.

I think the thing alot of people forget about IM is it's not about instant results.
Make 5 links a day and in half a year you'll have 912 back links, and you'll still have half a year to reap the rewards from your site.
Outsourcing is an option if you really can't bare it, but don't expect someone you've hired for $5 to be providing thousands of relevant high quality back links over night.
