I was reading a post on BHW when someone linked to this blog post:

    http://grindstoneseo.com/yeah-i-am-that-guy.html

So I wanted to see how he was linking for his snuggeez.com site.

    So I google

    link:snuggeez.com

and it returns 1,320 results. His link is not on them. I've been up 24 hours straight so maybe I'm making a retarded mistake, but what am I missing?

googling link:website.com will return only a fraction of the backilinks for the site

Use ahrefs.com then look at the 'links lost' option, I've found lots of private blog networks where he must have had his links.

Oh and if you want more than 5 requests for free use http://newipnow.com/ or something similar ;)

Understood, but my question is when you do this look at the results. Go to one, view source code of the page, and there is no link to Snuggeez.com.

Thats odd, i spot checked 10 random sites from various pages on the Google results and I couldn't find any linking to it either.

Although i also have been up a long time!

Maybe they were blog rolls links/link network and have recently been taken down. Buit you would think you would find some out of over 1300?

    Try this
    linkdomain:snuggeez.com

Currently this domain is redirected to SEOMOZ.

This domain is used as part of negative seo attack on SEOMOZ with variety of anchor texts.

That isn't a valid search operator in Google. Thats just acting like a normal search for that phrase. It used to be a valid command in Yahoo, but never Google.

What is difference from using link: to linkdomain:

186k with linkdomain... looks mostly like crappy backlinks like xrumer/scrapebox type of automated tool.

Yes i know that operator was for Yahoo. But if you search link:domain then it's not showing anything in google right now. That's the reason i tried linkdomain:domain operator

Previously google only supported link:domain and now it's showing with linkdomain:domain

Its not supporting the linkdomain: command, its just displaying results for that search phrase. Like you can just search for link snuggeez.com and you get the similar results. It just picking up pages that have the words snuggeez.com and link in the text of the page.

any thoughts though on why link:snuggeez.com returns results that don't have a link to the site on them?
