If I add the 'noindex/nofollow' on a sub-page that already has some good links pointing to it . . .

    Example: mysitedotcom/page1.html

What happens to the link juice?

    Where does it go?

If you think link juice is some kind of river flow that has to go somewhere, it's not.

You have to collect the juice with <cup></cup> HTML tag or else it'll spill on your floor.

Is the cup tag somehow related to bra size?

    LOL

So I guess links pointing to a NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW don't pass anything.

If you add no index for a page Google will remove from index. Technically that page would still have back links pointing towards it, but it's power would be irrelevant because you told Google to take it out the index.

No follow is placed on a link not a page. So if you changed all those links pointing to page1.html then juice would not be passed to page1.
Page1 would probably lose a percentage of its power and drop in rank. Any other pages that were linked to from the same sites would probably see a bit of a boost in comparison.

<metaname="robots"content="noindex, nofollow"> can be set on a page too.

Let me tell you why I'm asking this question . . .

We have the following site structure:

    20 English Pages (mysitedotcom)
19 English Pages + 1 French HomePage (Aimed towards the French - A sub folder not a sub domain: mysitedotcom/fr).
19 English Pages + 1 Japanese HomePage (Aimed towards the Japanese - A sub folder not a sub domain: mysitedotcm/jp).
19 English Pages + 1 Spanish HomePage (Aimed towards the Spanish - A sub folder not a sub domain: mysitedotcom/es).

I feel our rankings suck because besides the homepage of our international sections, everything is just a dupe of the original English pages.

Yes we have cannonical on the pages and hreflang tags.

That doesn't defeat the fact that these 'additional' English pages are still dupe.

    So my solution . . .

    1. DELETE all the English pages from the International sections, remove HREFLANG tags and 301 everything to the root of the respective sub-folder.

    Or

    2. NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW the extra English pages from the International sections and remove HREFLANG tags (Guess this doesn't cut it now since link equity doesn't pass if things are doen this way)

    3. Get all those extra English pages from the International sections translated properly for each section, remove HREFLANG tags and enjoy smooth sailing.

    Now . . .

Since #3 is time consuming and requires a decent investment, I would go with #1.

    What do you guys think? . . . BRA . . .
