    Hi guys,

A client is launching an e-commerce site in December / January.

Domain has been purchased, but as the site is not yet made, it obviously isn't being hosted.

They have a corporate website, which I currently work on and get decent results for.

Im wondering, should i begin the link building process now and just point to the new domain, despite it not having hosting, or should i create a page on their corporate website, build links to that, and then 301 redirect that page to the new e-commerce site when it goes live?

Start building tier 1 blog network and DO NOT create any links back to your unpublished site yet. Only when the site is live and only then you should slowly start adding links directly to it.

yes, there is no point in placing direct backlinks to such domain. As advised, start building your inner tiers so they get indexed and catch some good ranking till you publish the site and then simply from your tier1 link to your site

    Lolseo,

To add to what others have said, if you were to build links early and redirect them later, those redirects would dilute any PR that you are receiving from those links. Also, if you were to create links early to a site that does not exist, it creates a poor user experience.

    Best,

    Shawn

I suggest you lay down the structure and kick the start the link building campaign as soon as the site goes live.

Adding backlink to a site with no live is like medicine after death, thou frankly, the links will still have some level of effect based on the technique you use.
