I have a newer computer and I don't want to install limewire. Is there any other way to DL songs easily that doesn't involve googling it and finding a mediafire link to DL from? Possibly a safer program than limewire that wont be filled with viruses or a site where its extremely easily to search for songs and DL like jamglue used to be?

Jamglue used to be my favorite but they don't allow you to DL songs anymore, so that's a no go.

    1. Download Utorrent.
    2. Download torrents from D3monoid.com or thep1ratebay.org (numbers = e and i)
    3. Read the comments on each torrent before you download it, and only download torrents that have at least 3+ seeders for best speed.

Yeah I totally agree with above.

Download Utorrent - it is free
I like to use btjunkie(dot)com but the piratesbay is great also. If you can not find what you are looking for you can go to scrapetorrent(dot)com

Wouldn't torrents be riskier than limewire? I've already gotten a virus from p1ratebay, I mean I still use it but using it for 100s of music DL's kind of sketches me out a little because more DLs = higher probability of viruses being DL'd.

    I use Vuze btw...

Suggestion: If you don't want the risk then download stuffs from your old computer, then after finishing download and checked that there's no virus, then transfer it to your new computer. That is, if you don't want the risk huh.

I use avast for looking for viruses, and I have never had any problems. The only time I have ever gotten a virus was from a program I downloaded. Never from music or movies.

I use frostwire, Vuze and nod32 if the download contains known malware Nod will break the connection and quarantine the file. You shouldn't get infected by downloading MP3s I would
imagine you are downloading wma's you will notice the difference as a wma has a different icon and file extention. And if your client tells you the file extention doesn't match what you are attempting to download don't do it.
And dont download anything that says (Full version) (original track) or anything like that.

limewire is very good if you want to download music, but you have to know how to use it and you won't download any viruses
on the other hand you can also use bearshare, but it has the same problem as limewire, you can use kazaa
you can register on private (music) trackers, like what.cd, they're safer than the public ones, but if you don't have invite, here are some sites with open reg:
    Code:
    http://www.bitsoup.org/
    http://www.ilovetorrents.com/
    http://glabella.org/
    http://themixingbowl.org/

of course you can also use google to find music on rapidshare, megaupload and so on, but it also can be infected if it's compressed into rar/zip

i've just do a quick search on limewire and made a screenshot for you:
    Code:
    http://yfrog.com/62limewirej
as you can see i searched for the terms 'madonna devil' in audio files: the result on the top is a virus for 100% sure, how do i know that? let's see, it's exactly the same what i searched for (there's no track with this title from Madonna), no upper case letters, full lower case, it has the most results (not necessarily but it can be also suspicious), there is no artist, no album, no length and no real quality in kbps
so how do you know that which is virus which is not? viruses are full lower case, they have no length and no quality in kbps and sometimes they have no artist, no album sometimes they have but it's also full lower case and not all the time but most of the cases they're in the top results

but if you fail to recognize a virus, you don't have to worry, just use a good av, like nod32 (just as oxonbeef said) and you'll be fine

Thanks for the detailed write up.

    1. I'm assuming those torrent sites have more viruses than limewire... am I assuming wrong? I.e. isn't it easier to spot a virus using the method you explained above on limewire and hence avoiding it than it is to DL torrents and not know what you're getting since you can't use your above strategy on torrent sites like the ones you mentioned?

    2. Do you have an invite to what.cd you could toss me?

    3. Is there anywhere I can DL a clean version of nod32? Or did both of you guys buy it from eset.com?

    4. Have you noticed even a slight decrease in your computer's performance after installing limewire?

    1. Then you assume it wrong, they don't allow to upload compressed music albums (rars/zips), they only allow to upload the tracks uncompressed one by one in a folder, so you can see a list of mp3s and the usual stuff (nfo, sfv etc), i've never downloaded any virus from private trackers when i downloaded music
btw i'm using limewire and torrents for different tasks: limewire to download for example one track i like and i'm using torrent/rs to download albums

    2. I was banned from there a while ago :), so i haven't any, sorry

    3. Check your pm ;)

    4. Only when the program is running, but it's normal (make sure you close it completely, check the system tray as well)

+ one method i'm using lately: i'm searching for a good quality version of a track i like on yt and dl it with this free tool:
    Code:
    http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-YouTube-to-MP3-Converter.htm
it downloads & converts the yt video into a music file in the selected quality (mp3, wav...) in one step, it also supports batch download

I think people are under a big mis conception that your gonna get a virus from downloading songs...only an idiot opens a song.mp3.exe
your talking about spyware..frostwire claims to be 100 percent free but you have to make sure to skip their addons.....also you need to just run malware bytes etc after and check...
