Hey,

There's a dilemma in front of me whether to choose:

- exact name .me .biz .us
example: laptops.me

- exact name + digit .com .net
example: laptops9.com

I'm not sure which domain will rank higher - if there's a difference at all.

So I'm turning to you, players.

BTW Google doesn't rank the exact name .com-s at first page in the niche I'm interested in.

Bye

I stick with .com/net/org. You can rank others but it can be more of a battle imo.

I would not go with the digit. Use the G wonderwheel and find long tail keywords to get something like Keyword3Keyword1Keyword2.com/net/org

Just tried the wonderwheel. Thanks for the tip.

Nice tool. Looks like it works.

Not for all my searches though.

More thoughts on the digit? Can it actually hurt the ranking?

What is the point here? Wonderwheel? Or domain name structure?

No need to ask. Go and get .biz. It works fine if all others are gone. Do not use digit. Then I will use domain9, the other uses domain8, and so on. What a wrong decision!!! (we do not mention here about some sites having digits in their names. They are exceptions. They are exceptions because they are BIG)

The point was about what domain to pick.

Is what you're saying based on your own experience with .biz?

nu4aaa,

i suggest you take .com ONLY! It's the king's extension, works much better comparing other extensions in all cases (at least me), hopefully you too. Cheers.

Sounds good. I read one of bobbylove's threads in which he suggests to use

domaindotcom.com if nothing else is free

I thought that was a cool idea :)

Let's be absolutely clear about this - There is NO advantage of a .com domain (in terms of SEO) over a .info .net or .biz etc.

The only extensions that have any advantage are country specific domains such as .co.uk .fr .de etc. The advantage is only in that specific country. It's probably a bigger advantage if your hosting is in that country.

So if you are choosing between say:

iphone.net

and

iphone9.com

the .net will give you an advantage.

BUT your url is not the be all and end all of it. On site SEO and backlinks (plus many other factors) are just as valid, if not more so.

As per your example why not try laptops4you.com ? Easy to remember URL and that is the key for site naming.

Dot Com is the most recognized extension. It's what most people will type in when using the net.

i agree..

I use .co.uk for my campaigns because i am in the uk and because of this
i kick all .com .org etc ass becuse my domain extebtion is preferred.

so rule of thumb is .com to compete globally and country extention for
local domination

all I know is I tried for 2 years to rank keyword.name and eventually got to first page but with alot of money spent. 7 months ago I registered keywordsmallerkeyword.com and ranked for initial keyword in 6 months. Less money and time spent and i am now position 4 the .name is position 9. Derive from that what you will.

A lot of debate going on regarding this question and as far as I can ascertain it is hard to definitively say either way, although most people agree .com is a must if available

I use .info and have just as much success as others with .com or .net.

I would definitely use a less common extension (.us is my personal preference, but .info isn't so bad anymore either) over a name + digit. Those really tend to be spammy and I've had significant trouble ranking them alongside their non-digit friends.

I did an experiment a while back where I was trying to rank KeywordOtherword.com against KeywordDigit.com, and had much better luck without the digit.
