This is my first time doing a journey for any sort of internet marketing idea. I think documenting the journey like this will keep me a little bit on track with what I'm doing and my goals.

I have 2 sites I'm developing. For the sake of conversation I will call sate A "Jay-Z" and site B "Beyonce." This is an attempt at making passive income. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed.

For Jay-Z, this will be based off a keyword I bought with a high CPC and around 15k searches per month. Going longtail won't be a problem. This isn't a topic I'm super passionate about or pretend to be on. Its ust a keyword. All the articles will be outsourced for cheap. I'll proofread before anything goes live but thats about it in terms of writing. I'll also include images and try to throw in a video here and there where I can. I will start with 10 strong articles and randomly drip feed 2 to 3 articles of week after that. I will stop once I hit 100 articles.

For Beyonce this is a keyword I stumbled upon. It has a high CPC a similar search volume to Jay Z. For this one I plan on handwriting half and outsource the rest. I think for the subject if I can get to 50 articles it will be more than anyone could imagine reading on this topic.

So in summary Jay Z will be fully outsourced content and Beyonce will be 50/50 written by me and outsourced. I think I will save outsourcing for Beyonce after I write the first 20 articles myself.

As I build the sites up I'll let nature take its course, meaning I won't purchase any backlinks. I will build Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr and maybe Pinterest accounts for both sites. All content will feed out to those accounts automatically. I would like to see how these 2 in the first month with no backlinks. After 4 to 6 weeks I'm thinking I will buy blogposts backlinks and see how that helps. Social media and blogposts is all I have planned for ranking. Seeing how low the competition is on these keywords, that's all I should need.

The sites will be built with PHPBuilt's advice in mind and other common sense SEO practices.

I will find to 2 premium themes probably off of ThemeForest and hire someone to make real logos.

I will be running AdSense on both sites.

The goal is to get get these sites to make a combined income of $4000 per month.

I would like to get the sites to point where they can just cruise and make money without my regular attention. If I find these sites will need regular updates to remain profitable then I will sell them.

It's Jay Z vs Beyonce. I am curious to see if me being hands on with the content will make a dramatic difference in visitor retention and ultimately revenue. I will report my progress regularly here.

Just so you know I haven't written a single article yet LOL

I bought my domains. I avoided getting EMD for a couple reasons.

    1. they look cheap
    2. they aren't easy to remember
    3. the debate on how Google sees them is too murky for my tasste
    4. they look cheap

The problem was I wanted the domains to still be relevant. So this is how I approached the domains.

For Jay Z my main keyword is 4 words. I took the most important word out of the 4 and a synonym of the second most important work combined them for the final url. Keeping the domain name short as possible was important to me. My #2 word was so long that picking a synonym was the only option in my eyes. So the Jay-Z is basically Keyword1Synonym.com

For Beyonce my main keyword is 3 words. Originally my approach was going to be similar to Jay Z but then thought about the audience. I needed the domain to be a little more fun the actual keywords. So for this domain i used a related word and added a common internet acronym. So Beyonce is RelatedWordAcronym.com.

I think worst case scenario if none of this works out, I'll have domains 2, 2 word domains that could sell for something modest. The Beyonce domain in particular is only 8 characters. Jay Z is 12 characters.

Now that I got my domain its time to get my logos and content in order.

So I've discovered that Beyonce's keyword might run the risk of being an issue with Adsense. Personally I don't think it should be but it is alcohol related and I've seen that is an issue with a lot of publishers. Just so I don't end up wasting time I'm going to get a new keyword.

On a positive note, I've put in the order for Jay Z's articles.

I'm going to get the Jay Z site together so when the articles are completed I'll be ready.

Now I have to hunt down a new Beyonce which is a little frustrating but ultimately the write move. It sucks that I already bought the domain. I might hold on to it for awhile.

I'm excited to see how this one plays out. Outsourced vs Handmade.

For the Jay-Z articles, are you going for cheap or quality articles?

Also, reading your posts without realizing that Jay-Z and Beyonce weren't actually people was really strange.

Why are you worrying about themes and logos and haven't even started to write content? This journey isn't off to a good start. Hope you turn your objectives around. Good luck!

This is a point you need to take into account, OP, don't fall in love with a theme, logo, the look, etc.

Meat and potatoes with good KW research, content and proper ad placement is where you need to be focusing at this point.

If you really like the keyword phrase, why not keep it and find an Adsense alternative?

    Code:
    http://stream-seo.com/best-google-adsense-alternatives/
You can search BHW for discussion about which alternatives members are currently favoring. Just a thought.

the majority of my content will be outsourced. I know the content structure for my first site already. I'm going to get the theme and logo situated so when the articles are a lot of things have already been taken care of.

i will do some writing myself but nothing just yet.
