Alright guys,
So Microsoft's SOCL just went live recently and it seems to have potential. I have done some experimenting with registration and I would suggest registering now as it has a 2 word "Name" urls associated to accounts. Once registered, your url will look like this:
hxxp://www.so.cl/#/@Weight-Loss
You have to register with live/hotmail accounts and not facebook as the name associated with your account is the most important factor in determining your url. So as facebook will not allow your name to be "weight loss", you can register it in live/hotmail accounts. Additionally, if someone after you tries to register the same name it will show as:
hxxp://www.so.cl/#/@Weight-Loss-2
If you want a 3 word url, put the first two words in the first name on your email name.
hxxp://www.so.cl/#/@Weight-Loss-Tips
To find what names are available enter the hxxp://www.so.cl/#/@[names-gohere] so you don't waste an email that will automatically be assigned a "-2"
Once someone does a search in so.cl the name you registered for your account will show as a suggestive search at the top. I haven't registered enough to test any hierarchy for same name accounts yet. However, if you search "mike jones" the account WITHOUT the "-2" comes up first. That's a good sign.
As I am not using a vpn, I had to clear all browser history to create accounts. If it still has stuff on your browser, it will log you in without asking for any credentials.
In conclusion, as this is EXTREMELY new things will probably change and I do not gurantee any long term success. However, If they do not, you have a ground floor url that will probably reap benefits down the road.
THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER, LET THE SO.CL URL LAND RUSH BEGIN!!!
