[Learn] Spammy Title Tags

    Just got a new client, and I couldn't figure out why Google wasn't displaying the title tags that were in the head in the code.

    They looked like "blue keyword, red keyword, green keyword, keywords," (all on the same page) and just very, very spammy and keyword stuffed. Most of the descriptions were the same.

    I tried adjusting the backend, tried putting in NOODP and NoYDIR, thought it could have been Google Products;but what it actually turned out being is explained here.

    Basically if spammy title tags are used, they grab it from elsewhere. Most of us have heard of it coming from Dmoz, but what happened in this case was it was grabbing the H1 tag from the page, and using that as the page title in the search engine results.

    Just something to keep in mind if you ever run into this. Hopefully I'll save someone the trouble in the future.
