I had a pretty productive day today so I decided that I would give away a few tips on on page optimisations for Seo.

I'll Keep it short and give you a few factors that are critical for the success of your websites. If you want your site to rank well in the search engines you should follow these guidelines and make sure that your site has all these on page factors RIGHT!!!

    1. Keyword in domain name: The most critical factor in getting the sites ranked in competitive niches is having the keyword in the domain name. Most of the times in less competitive niches you can rank well easily if you have the keyword in your domain name, even when you have very less content.

I don't like to include hyphens in my domain names. What I like to do is to have the main keyword followed by something like review, scam, works, users etc.
So if my keyword was fat loss I would have something like fatloss XXXX.com

    2. Keyword in title:
this is one of the most critical on page factors. Including the keyword in the title is the primary on page factors. Almost every search engine JS insane amount of importance to this so make sure that you include your main keyword in your title tag.

    3. Keyword in description: the description should include your keyword. What I like to do personally is to include the keyword first followed by a hyphen and then give the description. Try to squeeze in your keyword twice if possible.

    4. Keyword density: the keyword density should be between 5 to 20%. It depends from niche niche but in most niches 5 to 20% is acceptable. Anything over 20% and your sites will never rank in the search engines. Search engines today are smart, they know what the black hat marketeers are up to.

    5. Main keyword density of 1% in top third of the page: this is a factor that most people miss out. Make sure that the keyword is included at least one percent in the top third of your article. So if you article is hundred words and has three paragraphs, then your keyword should appear at least once in first paragraph. I hope you get the point and I'm sure most early in the books that you read on search engine optimisation did not tell you this.

    6. At least one heading in the page: you should also have one heading in your article. Make sure that you include your Main title in the H1 tag and that will solve the problem. This is an easy but often overlooked factor of on page optimisation.

    7. Total number of words in the article should be greater than 500:
your articles should have at least 500 words for maximum search engine benefits. I know that ezine articles has spoiled a lot of you, most think that 250 word articles are enough but for maximum search engine optimisation benefit you need an article that has at least 500 words.

    8. Number of words in description should be greater than 20: I'm sure that most of you must have never heard of this factor but still would have been able to get away with it because most of our descriptions are anyway more than 20 words. Keep this in mind because even this is a factor that in get you rank high in the search engines than your competitors.

    9. Include an image: search engines, especially Google, loves media. If you include videos, images, audio etc. Google will love you. I find including image is the easiest so I include a lot of images, at least one with each article to get the Google LOVE.

    10. Alt tag of the image: including your keyword in the alt tags of your image is very important and should never be overlooked. Most of the people never even think of this factor but I have personally experienced a boost in the search engine rankings of my sites when I included an image with my keyword as the alternate text.

It is a way of telling Google that the image that you have included on your page is relevant to the search query.

    11. Internal link structure: your internal pages should link to each other. I try and squeeze on at least two links in the article body to other pages on my blog/website. You can use WordPress plug-ins for this if you use WordPress. One of the plug-ins that I use is KB linker.

    12. External links: you should include links to high PR websites on your blog. I personally linked to a Wikipedia page that is related to my niche in my footer and also to copyscape. Include links to high PR websites even in the article body.

    13. Number of tags: the number of tags should be greater than five.

If you get this correct and build high PR back links with little variation in the anchor text then you can rank really well in the search engines.

I used a voice recognition software for writing this article so if there are any typos please forgive me.

I hope you enjoy this, implement them on your present websites and see the difference yourself. These factors work and they will work if you make them work so work. :D

Thanks and great tips. For your poll, I will pay a lot if it genuinely helps me and is better than every other SEO plugin that's already out there for free, but if it could help my site reach these standards somehow I would pay up.

    Hey Virus,

As I recall it, the last thread I read by you was full of gems too. You were pretty negative to readers but, that point aside, there was lots to take away from it. With those points noted, I wanted to say thanks for this rundown.

I'd already come across these points over time, but having a reminder is always good and we don't all find out the same things in the same ways when we're first starting out so I'm sure many noobs would also find these points useful.

eventhough a lot of people know about these factors nobody actually takes the pain to ensure that everything is in place. And the ones who do, make the most of their SEO efforts :D

    So let me guess,

Your primary form of income is micro niche sites on the Wordpress platform?

When you start building larger functional sites you will realize that you are still thinking small potato.

The advice given in this thread are pretty solid. Steps 1-12 are part of my first hour of optimization for my new sites. The OP left off a few things I do (build sitemap, link it, and submit it to Google Webmaster Tools and coding optimization, Header Tags, and Strong Tags). Great share, especially for newer people who just need some onsite SEO tips

This is good info for starting out on a site and will probably do ok for microsites and the less competitive niches. For mainstream stuff it takes quite a bit more, and for some of my niches a huge amount more it would seem!....

These are just some of the factors. Most people don't even get these correct. There are a few more but the people who know this stuff can figure out how to find the rest.

This is just the first step, the ladder is tall :D

Nice little checklist. You mentioned that the keywords should be 1% of the first 1/3 of the article. I've never thought about that, but I do make sure the primary key word is in the first sentence of the article, ensure that sentence is under 15 words, and try to place a secondary key word within the first 160 characters of the content. This ensures that the article is indexed under those two keywords.
