Lead Generation Tracking Question

    Hey BHW,
    I try my best to contribute now I have a question for you. I provide a complete package for small businesses which includes: web design, Local SEO and lead generation services.

    My problem is tracking leads.
    Currently I track leads mainly by call tracking. If a lead contacts the customer from a citation page like google local or yelp, or even on the clients website, my tracking number is attached in these locations so I will get credit for generating those leads. However I want to get credit from prospects who don't call but may land on the local citation page or even on the website. My thought is to integrate some type of coupon, etc.

    Additionally I am looking for more opportunities to track leads to show the client the results of my efforts. Most of my clients don't care about google analytics data, they just care about their bottom line and how many customers I generate for them. Basically I am looking for additional methods to track and report leads and lead opportunities to clients. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

    Phone call tracking is best because it is undeniable where your efforts did the job for that lead/customer. You're right to be looking at codes... we used these for all the tracking back in the days of "mail order" to track our ad response, and direct mail response

    They haven't worked well online for me... Coupon Codes... because most of my strategies are not Product Oriented. They are service businesses and 90% of all searchers want to make a phone call anyway. Where it is not possible to place your own Tracking #, which happens in many cases where the customer demands his own business phone # be there... you can add this type of tracking. "Call TELEPHONE # and ask for Sarah to get special discounts"

    Sarah is a persona... fictional so you have a way for the staff to know the call came from your efforts. Use different persona names for different tracking

    Use a virtual phone number on the site. Point it to whomever you are generating leads for. ALL calls to that number are yours. If your customer decides not to continue, point the number to a new buyer.
