So my brother opened a vape shop at the end of April using all of his retirement savings.

His wife use to work as a manager at a vape shop 20 minutes drive away, but she quit along with all the other employees as the owner treated them very poorly.

Last week my brother got served with papers saying if he does not close his shop, his wife's former boss is going to sue him for stealing trade secrets.

He is getting a lawyer to handle this ridiculous claim.

The lady only has a website but does not seem to do anything with it.

I want to help him in a positive way as this lady is just trying to attack his wife through him.

What else would you suggest he could do to help his shop out competition wise online?

    Get listed on Google Maps.
Make a FB, Twitter, Instagram and market on those.
Make a website and do KW research. Start ranking for local terms.
Bandit signs are big here. So is offline advertising in the newspaper. Some places spin it with the "quit smoking cigarettes" angle.
Lastly, you could see what others are doing here https://www.google.com/search?q=promoting+vape+shop

You're right. I probably got a different meaning from the last sentence.

You can start with a Google My Business which covers almost everything you need to promote a local business. Things like Local search, maps, reviews etc. Bing also has something similar called Bing Places for Business.

Set up a business page/profile on all big Social Media sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter. etc.

Start a Youtube Channel and add few nice videos of the shop and so few more videos giving advice and recommendations.

Getting listed in local business directories and citations is another thing. Even Cragslist.

Make list of local competitors map their best selling points and negatives.

There are so much you can do about it :)

Thanks, I did get him setup on Google My Business. I can't seem to get his shop to show up for a larger radius. Is there a different thing that works for Google maps?

Hmm I'm not sure why. Try to get reviews on Google from people in larger area around the shop.

Printed or hand written written signs that are staked into the ground, usually at high traffic parts of the road. You've probably seen them already advertising real estate or political views.

I think the lawsuit is going away. but today my brother got a negative review on google claiming the reviewers 18 year old son was offered drugs by my brother when they were in the shop.

I think this is the same lady trying to do the dirty suit.

What would you suggest he do to handle this negative review? All his other reviews are great, but this makes a pretty false claim.

    Flag a review as inappropriate
If you find a review that you think violates the review policies, you can use the Flag as inappropriate link next to a review. We will then check if the review violates any of our policies, and will take appropriate action.
