    Hi there,

It's been 2 months now since we launched our social networking site. Unfortunately, there still isn't even one signup other than the ones signed up by our close friends.

We poured in more than 1 year's worth of time and effort into this project and spent a huge amount of time coding from scratch. When the site was finished, we were really really happy and proud with what we achieved and we were certain it would be useful and attractive to many people.

When it was launched, we did everything that was needed to get it launched. We submitted it to google, tweeted it, opened a facebook page, wrote some articles, used fiverr and craigslist services, etc. There were some traffic but no one outside the people we knew signed up. Last time we checked, we were ranked 1.5 million on Alexa. sigh..:(

It is just a little disappointing that's all. We don't know what else we can do. We have some money to promote the site but not much. My partner suggested that we use most of the money on Adwords but I don't really know if that's the best choice. We are after all a niche social network site and not a commerce one.

We just want healthy traffic, signups and users to use our features. We really think the site has a lot more to offer than various other social networking sites if people just gave it a chance. I'm not trying to toot our own horn but the feedbacks we had from everybody we knew was a great one.

I hope that through this forum I can learn a little from everyone on how to market our site a little better and improve its "health". So please feel free to advise or share your thoughts on this matter.

    Much appreciated.:)

Any paid advertising can easily be tested on a small scale, then you'll know.

    What is your backlinking strategy?

Care to PM the site, I'll give you a fresh set of eyes, maybe.

That attitude is part of your problem. If you're trying to launch a social site, you have to hammer it in every single avenue you can. So far you have just failed to market your site effectively. It's a really crowded space and most people don't want to sign up for anything new if they've already got Facebook and Twitter.

Your ability to get sign ups is directly proportional to your ability to spam the crap out of your site in whatever ways you can. You gotta make that shit go viral, or else your year of effort will be for nothing.

Is it a site like Facebook? If so what makes it better than FB and why would a user want to join it?

The fact you poured so much time and are dedicated to the cause is great. You will be successful (even if not this). Persistence.

I am going to tell you that money doesn't need to be poured into the site as much as the user experience. Is it a niche social experience? Is it a general one? You know Facebook started because it was a niche, it focused on the college experience, the edu, before opening up to everyone.

Your quality may be top and if you really want to let it grow potentially hire guys off of ODesk to create some content by becoming members but avoid huge black hat tactics

Check your onsite SEO, make sure all the knots are tied.

Really try to find out your niche, your target and gear the site

Thanks. That's really constructive and helpful. I just checked out ODesk (to be frank, I never heard of it until now :p) and it looks like a good site to keep our options open.

We do have a niche social experience but as one member pointed out earlier, it's a crowded place. That said we are really trying our hardest to get people to notice our site and its purpose and how they might benefit from it. The closest we have to some form of engaging conversation with the public is through twitter. So I suppose we just need to continue with the tweets and hope for the best.

As per my post above, if you cannot tell us what the site is, how the hell are we supposed to effectively advise you? I'm sure that a few of us BHW peeps would sign up and go through the user experience and tell you what we honestly think.

Any advice you get from someone who actually hasn't seen the site is heresay at best.
