    well hello there,

Thanks for taking the time to read and I would love to hear your suggestions about this topic. It would help a computer noob like me out.

I am going to buy a new laptop in the near future with as sole purpose for my IM journey. I don't have a big budget for it just yet. Around 400/500 euro is the limit for now.

What do you guys use for IM? And what would you recommend? I need it for making a few websites every now and then, and making blog posts. So nothing to crazy. How much ram and stuff like that will I need?

Please keep in mind that I am not a computer expert by any means. For me it is all pretty vague.

    Thanks in advance :)

There is no specific requirement for IM in a laptop. Just a normal computer would do fine if you just wanna do IM. But, you if you wanna game, your budget might not cut it.
Go with i3/i5 with 8 GB of Ram. Buying an old MacBook off eBay can work great, but make sure it is in fine condition esp the battery backup. I did same when I started out.

I recommend Apple Products, if you doesn't have enough budget,
buy an apple & paste them on any low budget Lap top like him :D:D

I am wondering the same thing. I have a crappy laptop that was the cheapest i could find at the time. its served me well but its getting on a bit now, purchased it 18 months ago from a staples and paid too much for what it is.

I'm upgrading. I dont play games i just do IM but i do open up a shit ton of tabs, windows, have bots (imacors) running all the time so i need something fast

I have $1000 to spend but have no idea what to look for in a machine. I am probably the least techy person on BHW, I had to look up what VPS stood for yesterday lol

like I posted before, I would suggest a Lenovo Thinkpad. There are diffrent models out there, look for i5 processor and at least 4 better 8GB of RAM and maybe one with a ssd upgrade... but you can upgrade it later.

I would suggest to buy a used macbook pro ,

I've had mine for wait I can't remember how many years and never ever had a problem

The soft is limited somehow but everything runs smoothly and I don't even have crazy specs , make sure to upgrade to SSD though , it makes a very noticable difference

Go for any i3 processor, with 8gb of ram and if u can buy SSD that would be great. 80gb or 120gb is all u need. Just for the windows and the programs u work on.. no gpu needed (graphic card).
    500e is all u need.

It would be helpful to describe what specifically you're looking to do. You honestly don't need a very powerful computer for most things IM.

I want things to happen faster on my pc especially when opening 20 things at once. just the speed things happen on the PC. SO is it RAM that increases that sort of thing?

Nothing special actually, being able to design websites with wordpress. And I want to be able to write and update blogs. That is pretty much it I think.

I'm not you really something that heavy if you're not going to be using for gaming purpose. Just find a laptop with pretty good battery backup and medium specification . :)

Sweet, although I do want the best I can get, I am willing to spend more than $1000 if its a beast. I would rather do that and it last for a long time and not have to upgrade. If I can find something with a ton of RAM regardless of if its more or less in cost that would be what i'm looking for right?
