Laptop recomendations....

I'm another one who has a Toshiba Satellite.

Another possibility are the Lenovos/Thinkpads which a lot of my friends love.

If you live in the States and want to get it at a brick and mortar place the prices for both the Toshibas and Lenovos/Thinkpads seem to be the lowest at Office Depot.

After my first Dell laptop had to be fixed 8 times, Dell sent me a brand new widescreen one for free. I've had it for about 3 years and never had one problem with it, its a solid machine.

Tons of people hate dell, but if you get a shitty unit you can have it replaced if you bitch enough.

I have an Inspiron 6000, 15.4" monitor. However I have it hooked up to an external 22" and it works awesome.

But I do have a cooling unit under the laptop, just a few fans that hooks up to the USB because my old laptop had overheating issues. This one doesn't, but I do it just to be safe and so far its been great.

I think the reason my first laptop burned out was because the processor was lightning fast and made the computer heat up within seconds of turning it on. They don't even make that model anymore. I think it had like 3.2 ghz when most models weren't even breaking the 1.5 ghz area. I think my new one has about 2 or something, works great.

Buy a MacBook.
If you want 15", get the MacBook Pro.

It's worth it.

I done like the mac I'd thoguh. Its. Too basic for me

I'm also a proud Toshiba laptop owner, I've bought it a half a year ago, so far it's cool. Btw IBM Lenovo laptops are pretty fucking ugly, but they're pretty reliable.

Long time PC user, did all the XP tweaks, reg edit blah blah blah. I've never been happier since I got the Macbook Pro 15'. It just works, all the time. No matter what I'm doing, it just works. Yea I've crashed it, yea programs have locked up but compared to the average PC experience, the Macbook Pro is like my 2nd girlfriend.

And now when guests use the Acer laptop I pity them and its wackness compared to the MBP. Its all in how you use it, but I spend more time "using" the MBP and "working" compared to fucking with stupid Windows issues, lock ups, sleep mode not really working.

Well I'm gonna go out on a limb here a bit, but I bought an Acer aspire 5520 in March. I got it with 2g ram, 15", Vista Home, PLUS a Sprint Air Card (the Merlin x720 which kicks ass by the way) and a Printer. Bought it right, got some rebates from Microcenter.

Total out of pocket at the register: $900.

Rebates: $550.

Total real cost: $350.

Complaints: NOT A FUCKING ONE.

Totally happy with it. I take it from home to the office every single day in a $5 backpack cuz if it breaks, fuck it. This thing's a beast. Durable, but lightweight. Glossy black cover, killer retro white interior. Love the keyboard. Love the display. And it cost me about what a good night on the town costs. /shrug

My $.02

sweet , I think I will get one

Ill check it out too

Am looking at a dell xps m1330 right now

Dont spend more than 1500 on a laptop... parts will become obsolete so fast.

Spend your money wisely and pick up a higher end dell like the xps line or a mac or an ibm thinkpad.

One thing that I love about my thinkpad is the dual navigation, you get so used to it it becomes hard to use the touch pad :) I love it.

Watch sites like sli*ck*dea*ls.n*et or fa*t*wal*let.co*m for great deals-

Im very happy with my Asus and its kept going now for over a year and i have not been easy on the poor thing.

I want to get a Sony i think they great!

Don't get Apple its a big fat marketing/branding ploy!

You guys make me feel bad, with your powerful machines.
I'm on a dell d610 2.8ghz processor, and 2 gigs of ram. nothing special.

We sell those D600s and D610s every day Cash. Don't feel bad. They are good machines. Well worth the monry.

Have to admit that I haven't seen one with a 2.8 though. Centrino I presume?

I had all major brands in the past but Toshiba is the best so far..Go for Toshiba!!

I dont want anything higher than 2.5... That fast and it starts getting really hot

yeah the heat is a big thing, i dont no how big mine is, but it gets well hot and just blows out hot air allday!

its a compaq, my 1st ever compaq. I like everything about it besides the heat!

Have you checked ASUS also .. Till now I had DELL , ACER,ASUS and FJ laptops .. ASUS is my favorite
