    Hey guys,

My son spilled some water on my laptop's keyboard. It was not a lot of water maybe half a mouth full. Some of the keys have stopped working but the computer works totally fine. Even the keys light up. About 10 keys in random places have stopped working.

My question is, if I just replace the entire keyboard would everything start working again? Is the damage done only to the keyboard or could it go further? I can find a replacement keyboard for 30 bucks on ebay, I just want to make sure that when I replace it the keys will start working.

    Thanks!

it sounds like just the keyboard, just take the keyboard out and make sure its dry underneath most keyboards have a kind of underlay, but would make sure it s dry inside
dont just keep using it because if water hits the board while power is on will fry

but rpl keybeyboard should do the trick

Just grab a keyboard usb one plug it in and use that till the thing dries out. If it still doesn't work after 48hrs replace the keyboard can be a bugger on some laptops. I spilt coke on one of mine... christ that was awful. I just used a usb keyboard for the next 12 months of it's life.

Thanks guys, Im using a usb keyboard for now. I already ordered a new laptop since it was overdue and the black friday deals made it perfect timing. I guess im just going to order a replacement keyboard and see where it goes. Hopefully it will work fine after I put the new one in. Thanks!

Use a small trash bag, put your laptop in it, with the laptop lid closed. Put a couple bags of cheap rice in it, and let it site for 24 hours. The rice will draw the moisture out.

Had the same thing happen to my iphone about two years ago. I dropped my iphone in an open cup of water. The screen was all messed up and the phone didn't work. Friend suggested trying this and it worked. Still using that same phone today.

I'm typing on a fucked up keyboard right now, just remapped the keys that I needed to keys that I don't use, my friend told me you shouldn't type on it until it dries after the spill because it just spreads the water around the keyboard so watch out for that

Turn it off, remove the keys, cover laptop in rice to suck up the moisture and put it in a warm place.

IF you keep using it you will corrode the PCB and it cannot be fixed, dry it out properly and it will probably recover.

Right now you probably have water shorting out the circuit.

Worst case, if that doesn't work, the smell of rice will attract Asians, who will fix the laptop, right @nikchaing?
