What is the best style of landing page to increase conversions when you're promoting affiliate offers with PPC traffic?

Obviously it partly depends on the offer type and the type of PPC network you're using, but in general I've only used landing pages to collect leads like email addresses.

I know people are making serious money converting affiliate offers with landing pages using different sources of PPC traffic and I wanted to know if anyone has any experience using landing pages for closing sales instead of just collecting leads.
