    Lakitu's Adsense Journey to $50 a Day

    Background
Having gained some success with IM after two years thanks to this forum, it's time to up the stakes and try something new. I'm going the Adsense route because that's what I'm used to and that's what I've personally had some success with. Although I'm currently making money from a niche website, I've yet to break the $50 a day threshold. My first ever niche site had some success, but I noticed it was dying. Having created another niche site in a similar topic a few months ago, I was surprised with how quickly it picked up and with minimal backlinking effort (it's a low competition keyword so I guess it was expected). Now, I'm going to put my knowledge and skills to the test with a medium competition keyword and hopefully build my way into the high competition zone after a few months of trial and error.
    Goal
The goal is simply to make $50 a day with Adsense for a medium competition keyword with lots of monthly searches. This is outside of my comfort zone in both competition and niche topic, but if I can pull it off I think I will reach my goal within a few months time.
    Game Plan
I have already finished my keyword research for my main keyword and will be trying to rank it using the silo structure that I've been hearing great things about lately. It's a new system for me, so I will be researching how it works and why it works during my journey. It's my first time trying it, and I've already changed my structure a few times trying to get a hang of it. Basically, I will have a category on Wordpress for a specific topic related to the main KW (KW1) I want to rank, then 4-5 articles in that same category related to that keyword, probably longtails if I can find some (KW2, KW3, KW4, KW5...). The sub keywords will all link to each other and to KW1, while KW1 will not link to anything else. I will also be creating backlinks to the sub KWs, but not KW1. The idea is to get all the link juice from the sub KWs flowing into KW1, but not back out. As far as backlinks go, I will have to do a bit more research on Tier 1/2/3 backlinks because I haven't been too active in the backlinking game for a while. As of now, I'm already manually building PR2-3 blog comment backlinks to my homepage(which links to all of my articles). If you have any advice, feel free to post it.
    Resources & Questions
I'm going to try to post the resources I use along the way and I'll try to answer any questions you have as well. This is my first journey thread and my first time doing this type of structured website in a niche I know almost nothing about, but where's the fun in success if you don't take risks?
    Stats
I'll start posting daily Adsense earnings and other statistics when I get to that point. Right now, I want to rank my website first before I start monetizing. I also have to redesign my WordPress template a bit for optimized CTR and legitimate aesthetics, but I'm currently focusing on writing quality content by hand.

    Interesting post.

Are you using any tools to rank your site? Or just manual PR-1 Backlinks?

I do think you will succeed though so make sure to update this topic regularly and I will follow this journey :)

    Good Luck!

I used the Adword Keyword Tool for keyword research along with the SEOQuake Firefox plugin to check out how websites on page 1 rank for each keyword and if I had a chance against them. I looked at their PR, backlinks, and Alexa ranks to get a general idea of how hard it might be to rank against them.

Right now, I plan to make manual PR1-3 backlinks on blogs and web 2.0s, but may opt in for a paid service I've used on BHW soon. Still focusing on content writing because that's my biggest downfall (I don't want to pay for it, but I get lazy rewriting content). As soon as that's done I can focus on the good stuff.

    Nice plan!

I would suggest to buy an SEO tool when you have the funds, it will be more efficient in the ling run compared to ordering SEO services. I'm sure you can also get a good discount if you post in one of the threads about it also.

    Hi,
when I was active in IM earlier in 2009-2011 I had more than 100$ a day journey.

    My tips:

    1. Don't make any linkbuilding for a month or two or don't do it at all. If you wish to promote your site, go to forums and promote it thru signature. Blog commenting is OK if your anchor text is simple like your real name : ), but this is just for indexing purposes in my opinion and you should do it really carefully, not too much. Do social signals/re-post your content to twitter/g+/fb/pinterest/tumbr/youtube.. . It will work better.

    2. Your website won't work with this strategy of 5 pages for the topic. Your first goal should be to do so much content to cover every bit of niche. Traffic will start to climb-up after weeks of regular new content additions. Let's say start from 25-50 posts for the niche and check are you starting to get some traffic.

    3. Don't do any on-site SEO except: Good Title / Interlinking inner-pages / No-follow outbound links

    4. Go with expensive keywords - each click should give you about 1$ real value

    5. Collect e-mails for subscription

    6. Add some random banner to get qualified to Adsense guidances as you can't have just adsense on your site.

    7. Basically build mini-authority site

I'm banned from Adsense and won't get back, so be cautios and keep what you have or you will be on the same spot. Cheers. Btw they banned me not because of clicks or something similar but because of low quality in general: low content quality, low quality of website design, low promotion rating (black hat seo).

Thanks for the tips. Regarding point 2, I do plan to have about 5 silos(categories) with related niche keywords, each having 4-5 posts, totaling up to 20-30 posts to start. Then I plan to add more to each as I go along. I'm focusing on writing up quality content right now and will be focusing on having a nice looking layout soon after that. Only after the website looks legitimately clean and like a place where people would actually want to get information from, will I begin my real backlinking phase. Right now I've just thrown around about a dozen blog comments and social signals combined.

Will write up an indepth post about what I'm doing as soon as I finish up completing my first silo. :)

Update #1: WordPress Silo Structure & Plugins

    Silo Structure
I gave you a general overview of what I intend to do in my OP, but now I'm going to try and give you the specifics that will hopefully make my journey and my methods clearer. Since I still can't post images yet, I'll try to explain my silo structure in more detail below. This is what my final website will look like:
    Home Page
Main Keyword Related Niche Keyword #1 Related Niche Keyword #2 Related Niche Keyword #3 Related Niche Keyword #4
    Related/Longtail KW #1 Related/Longtail KW #1 Related/Longtail KW #1 Related/Longtail KW #1 Related/Longtail KW #1
    Related/Longtail KW #2 Related/Longtail KW #2 Related/Longtail KW #2 Related/Longtail KW #2 Related/Longtail KW #2
    Related/Longtail KW #3 Related/Longtail KW #3 Related/Longtail KW #3 Related/Longtail KW #3 Related/Longtail KW #3
    Related/Longtail KW #4 Related/Longtail KW #4 Related/Longtail KW #4 Related/Longtail KW #4 Related/Longtail KW #4
In sum, each colored column is a separate silo focusing on a topic related to the niche of my Main Keyword in column 1. Each row of each column will consist on an article written for that keyword. The articles I'm writing average out to about 500-700 words per article and I'm focusing on a keyword density of 0.5% - 1% (as followed in phpbuilt's guidelines which I highly recommend you reading). The Main Keyword will have no outbound internal backlinks; however, all of the articles in the red silo will have links pointing to it (and each other). I will follow this same strategy for each of the different colored silos to build link juice towards their main keywords. I will then link all of the top level silo keywords to my Main Keyword to stream massive link juice towards it. Here's what it should look like when I'm done:
Related Niche Keyword #1 > Main Keyword Related Niche Keyword #2 > Main Keyword Related Niche Keyword #3 > Main Keyword Related Niche Keyword #4 > Main Keyword
I will be creating some backlinks to each of the articles in each silo (except the top level articles) using social signals, web 2.0s, and other links. All of this will come at a much later time as I'm focusing on writing quality content right now. I've finished Silo 1 more or less, but now need to focus on my last 4 silos to rake up a total of 26 articles (including the home page) for my niche site.
    Wordpress Plugins
If you want to follow along, here is a list of the Wordpress plugins I'm currently using for my niche site and why I'm using them. If you're curious about the theme, just do a Google search for "Free Wordpress Magazine Theme" and pick one that you like, that's what I did. I modify the themes to my liking after that with the theme editor and I'm all set. Anyway, without further adieu, the plugins:
AA's Digg Digg Alternative A plugin that creates a floating social sidebar on every post/page. Useful for easily creating social signals on your site and allowing viewers to do the same. This one is lightweight.
Akismet Standard with all WP installs. Blocks spam comments. A must have.
Contact Form 7 A must have for creating a quick and simple contact page for your site.
WordPress SEO Yoast's plugin for onsite SEO. My favorite SEO plugin because you can set a specific keyword for each post and it will let you easily optimize the meta tags for that post as well as give you suggestions on better SEO
Google XML Sitemap Creates a sitemap of the posts/pages on your website and pings search engines. Used for indexing on Google.
Video XML Sitemap Generator A while ago I heard pinging Youtube videos will get your page indexed super fast, if not immediately. Not sure if this hold any truth or not, but I still like to throw a few videos on my posts and ping them.
Microkid's Related Posts My first time using this as I needed a quick way to add related posts to certain posts but not others. This lets you choose your related posts for each page, unlike YARPP, which uses an algorithm.
    Concluding Thoughts
I hope you find this post useful in explaining the silo structure and how I'll be using it. It may not be how everyone uses it, but it'll be how I will be using it for my own site. I will probably end up adding some more Wordpress plugins down the line, such as caching, but for now I think these are pretty solid. Time to write more content and start making some social network accounts. :)

    The best ever!!
Hi, Lakitu, I want to wish you the best of luck with your journey. I am as well starting to build a new website based on silo strategy. Unlike you I have never succeeded before with my other sites due to ranking and traffic (not enough to convert). I still work on them since I do not want to give up. I will follow you and try to go along side and see my progress.

    Couple questions though:
    1. The silo structure you are working on will be based on pages or posts?
    2. Will you make the main keyword page/post static for the homepage?

    Thanks...
