Sucks for the people who live in Tennessee. I'm still sharing my Netflix account. :)

But honestly.. what kind of stupid law is that? I hope Georgia doesn't adopt that from its neighbors.

It's like $10 a month for unlimited streaming...you're stealing that?

If you have 4 family members and they all watch Netflix on their own laptop...then would you want to pay $40 a month? Didn't think so.

?Netflix applauds any efforts to stave off video piracy. However, Netflix already has provisions in its Terms of Use that restrict passwords to the member?s household,? the company stated in regards to the state bill.

According to the terms of use, sharing an account password outside of a household will result in termination of the user?s subscription. Beyond that, the company can choose to terminate a subscription any time it chooses.

Netflix allows you to share w/ 5 devices so not illegal...

Have someone in another state own the account and add you. :p

You can add devices to your netflix account and you can have 2 stream going at the same time to 2 different devices. It would be a hard day for a lawyer to prove you are sharing a netflix account... one of those laws where you just say, lOlOl.

If they really cared about preserving their intellectual property, they wouldn't package it into a format that lends itself to be used in ways they do not want. They could sell or rent CD's or DVD's. They could restrict downloading to a particular IP Address.

It's like a band playing an outdoor concert, and then wanting the Police to charge anyone that hasn't paid for a ticket for listening.

They've put their "work" into data and then let their data loose on the internet. It's not my responsiblity to ensure their profits after they make bad business decisions. If they care so much about all these "anti-piracy" laws, then let them enforce them at their own expense. It's not my job as a citizen and/or as a taxpayer to enforce these laws. We have too much government already, and it's too intrusive the way it is. They can go back to VHS video tape if they can't figure out how to earn a profit without my rights being abridged.

We don't need hoards of fat and overpaid government employees sniffing the dirty electronic panties of average people. When elected "Leaders" demonstrate what law-abiding behavior looks like, then I'll think about respecting the law myself. Leadership is by example. One cannot on the one hand create a massive and taxpayer-funded beaurocracy that usurps the individual rights and freedoms of average people in order to shore-up the bloated profits of a retarded corporatocracy on the one hand, then completely disregard any laws and/or moral standards and behave in any way that suits the political moment on the other. They can TRY, but I'm not cooperating, nor would I expect anyone else to, either.

You'd think people in the Tennessee legislature would have something more important to worry about - like creating jobs and pulling their state out of the economic toilet the country is in...

I don't think Netflix asked for this... Besides since when do governments make laws around public companies? It's amazing because I had a lawsuit I had to go testify in for an online company I was working for and they ruled in the consumers favor (it was a consumer violation of terms of service) and they sued the company. The issue was they did offline business with an online company and then basically revoked the order (which by terms of service they couldn't do in the timeframe they did.) For example you sign up for a service don't request a refund in a 30 day money back guarantee then 90 days later sue for your money back. Well because the judge didn't know here was a federal statute that says if you do offline business with an internet company you agree to their online terms of service they ruled in consumer favor. So it amazes me that they would pass such a law.

Have you actually been to Tennessee? It is not as bad as you think it is. Nissan moved their US headquarters to Tennessee from California. Some of the largest trucking companies and restaurant chains headquarter in Tennessee. Tennessee plays a central part in the healthcare industry.

There are a lot of jobs available there but like a lot of other places, there are also people that are too lazy or think too much of themselves to actually take a labor job.

Here are just a few head quarters.

    FedEx
    AutoZone
    Captain D's
    Shoneys
    Cracker Barrel
    Perkins Family Restaurants
    Averitt Trucking
    Covenant Trucking
    Star Trucking
    US Express Trucking
    HCA
    Tristar Healthcare
    Nissan

VW is building a plant in Chattanooga

Memphis and Nashville are healthcare mecas with what is available.

Jack Daniels is made in a little hollow in the middle of no where. I have been in every part of the plant except the barrel storage warehouses. (I installed their phone system) That place would amaze you. They even have other liquor mfgs ship in their stuff for bottling there.

Tennessee is not the backwards hickville that people automatically think of. Nashville is the intersecting point for 3 major interstates, I24, I65 and I40.

I have not looked into the law as I do not live there any more but it is not a bad place (except I never really liked Memphis)

Having and keeping all those companies there says that they are doing something to create jobs. Those are just the few things that I can remember at the moment. What they really need to do is overhaul the TennCare system that is draining them.
