So back in Oct/Nov a Google update (penguin 2.1GoF-urself) basically de-listed thousands of articles from my site right off of Google search. Basically, my site is a travel aggregator of videos, articles, blogs etc from all over the net. Its put together Flipboard style. No original content AT ALL....but it looks MARVELOUS :D. and gets good traffic too.

Anyway, I'm off to find other ways to generate traffic. Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Up until 3 days ago, I can't find an article from my site anywhere on Google search. Even searching my exact domain or one of the subdomains doesn't bring up my site - what that search does do is bring up thousands of other sites that have linked to my rehashed content. Twitter, Paperli, Faceook pages etc. But basically, I was dead.

Then 3 days ago I put up a Google Plus page for my site. And start having my site auto post articles to the Google Plus page with links back to the site. Voila! Every article that is posted on Google Plus magically is also back in Google search for the Google Plus page AND on the original page. Not only that, but they are ranking! with a date limited search to the last 24 hours, week or month, they are ranking in the top 20 and some are outranking sites like Tripadvisor (based on long tail keywords) and are top 10.

No SEO, no backlinks no nothing.

Is this short-lived or does google love itself so much it forgot how much it doesn't like my site?

Should I blast links to the Google Plus articles LOL? But seriously, will these links help resuscitate my site?

Google plus is managed by one team, search is managed by another.
Two teams + bad QA = lots of bugs.

Hate to point out the obvious, but just in case (happens all the time), are you logged into google when you're looking at your rankings or are you using dedicated rank trackers?

leads me to think you're just typing querries into google searchbox, and if you're also logged into google, then you'll be shown results that are most relevant to you, and your activities on google.

LOL. I thought of that. But Nope. logged out of google and not even on my regular computer. I've since tried several different computeres that I've not been on (library, Kinkos) and the results are the same. And I've done the searches in Google keyword position checkers not the search bar as well.

If you weren't showing up an exact match search, that's not Penguin. You were hit with some sort of temporary manual penalty of some kind.

Interesting. Well. now the only domains that are showing up on exact search are the ones that are associated with the google plus posts. Why would I be hit with a manual search penalty I wonder. I haven' done any blackhat stuff with backlinks, or link wheels or anything. I do have a massive twitter blackhat campaign that links back to my main site. Maybe thats why I got hit?

Hootsuite. Its free and works OK - misses a lot of posts even though its set to update every hour but its better than doing it manually.

Yes, please do. I'd like to know what the heck is going on. As for me, its still occurring. New posts on my Google Plus page are indexing in google search within just a few hours (3-4) and SEEM to be bringing back the domains they are linked to.

That said, it was mentioned above that my site may have had a manual penalty. Its possible that is going off at the same time? But that would be a wild coincidence.

Good to know. Hopefully whatever pro-bias they have for plus posts keeps working to resurrect deindexed pages.

    Update:

There is now no doubt for me that this is working. I posted this on 1/3. By 1/8 webmaster tools showed that one of my sub-domains popping up in search queries was up from an average of 11x a day to 180x a day. Another went from averaging 29 impressions to 300 a day. That was the same across all of my subdomains. And all on the same day. I've done nothing else (I had given up on google search) but put up the google plus page 5 days before the jump (No SEO, no promotion, no link building or article sub etc).

I think Google Plus is the way to go.

There you go. It never hurts to have a do-follow link from Google.
