So the year 2014, and it looks like I got here a little late (panda,penguin,panda,humming-bird,PANDA...). Niche finder, and Market Samurai seem to have trouble predicting the competition of a certain keyword or phrase. Furthermore their "research" seems to be suggesting tired keywords, or ones that MOZ says nobody searches. Clearly I'm doing something wrong.

I need some advice on how find keywords that have commercial intent and reasonable competition for a newbie.

This includes #1 finding the keywords and #2 assessing what keywords meet the appropriate criteria.

    Thanks in Advanced,

    May Satan Bless You.

    Yes me too,
I'm looking for something to browse through different keywords with search-density/competition etc.. As opposed to like google keyword planner where you search for them. I'm trying to find a niche for a new website
    anybody?
    much appreciated :)

I use LongTalePro for such purpose. It's similar to the Google keyword planer, only it can calculate the competition for every keyword based on DA, PA, PR, Keywords in Title, age of domain etc.

I am interested in this thread as well. There are several keyword research tools out there but they can get pretty expensive. Market Samurai doesn't quite work as well as before.

Interesting, satan blessed me and stole my soul.

Anyway, for keyword tools, try übersuggest.org or keywordshitter. If you don't have access to tools that help with analyzing the competition, try seo quake.

If you want to make it a commercial intent, add the prefix:
coupon, discount, buy, purchase, cheap, wholesale, best, etc...

Also you may try with adding to the main kw words:
    -video
    -review
    -%location%
    -%city%
    etc.
For analysing competition I would advice manual check.

Hey in most case commercial keyword include action to buy, review, cheap, discount, coupon, compare like:

    Buy cheap spider man costume
    Xbox game review
cheap Flight ticket to New York
discount flight ticket to New York
