Pretty simple question, but I can't seem to ponder it being as tired as I am right now -- so I thought I'd just ask and go to sleep and wake up to see all the wonderful responses by you guys.

Anyways... say for example you're searching a keyword in AdWords keyword tool, something broad like "make money" (just an example). Now, we all know that all forms of internet marketing come into that niche (the making money online niche)... and you could also have some other slightly related niches like "saving money".

The weird part is, Google doesn't have anything with the words "marketing" in the related keywords for "make money online." So, is it worth it building one site based on both those ideas or a separate website for each one? Shouldn't it be basically considered one niche?

I don't understand what you mean. Niche is a niche, keyword is a keyword. You build your websites based on keywords, not niches.

I would put it this way:
a niche is a "topic" or "category" and keywords are just, words key to your topic/category

I have to say, I am a newbie too, so would appreciate some help from the gurus.

Before you move on you should know the definition of Niche and Keyword

A keyword phrase is generally two or more words that are used by advertisers in search engine optimization, or by visitors who are using search engines in a desire to find information based on that particular phrase.
Niche is referred to a small profitable portion of a market that marketers may find suitable to focus on

So, do you think internet marketing & "making money online" fall within the same niche category? What about like marketing tips? Should I create separate websites for these ideas?

Maybe this will help, and it links to some other related blog posts, too.

Search earn money and you'll see that make money is also highlighted. Using a tactic like this might help you identify what Google considers related keywords.

That helped a little bit -- but I'm not exactly looking for "synonyms"... guess it's time to split into two websites lol.

If you're asking these questions I think internet marketing will be a bad niche for you..

    Sorry, mate, I misunderstood.

So, if your site is about making money, marketing would come within that, really, as it's all part of the money making process, right?
