So there's a site ranking #1 for the keyword how to xxxx and there is some competition.

There's another keyword how do you xxxx with pretty much no competition at all. However the same site ranking for how to is showing up as #1.

Would it be easy to outrank? Because there is no site targeting the how do you.

Or does the similarity between the sentences make it hard?

    Thanks in advance!

You'll want to see what kind of traffic estimations you'd get for it though, to make sure it's worth while first. I know I don't type in "how do you..." or "how do I..."

That's called "LSI" (latent semantic indexing), it's varying words but having similar results\content. Target "how do you", and you may see results for "how to" anyways. Check the traffic estimations first though, at least in Google AdWords Planner. You may find it doesn't have any competition for a reason.
