Hey and thanks for your time reading this.

Last week we had one of our most important keywords in the ~30 range (not good but it's something). However since 19.11 we are longer ranking for this keyword. I know it's hard to track down to what it is due but during that time we optimzied our content for the specific keyword and with onpage as well as with backlinking.

Anyone else experiencing something similar or had that happen to him before?

    Any input is well appreciated.

Yeah I did some competitor backlinking to >50 domain rating sites and also only 5 at a day. This makes it kind of hard to believe it is because of that.

if you are totally flushed off of the serps, it could possibly be a penalty.

Stay calm and maybe you'll come back once they sort it out. Rank Brain just needs some sleep now and then.

First off don't panic. One of my sites which is classed as "diy" niche has a fair few keywords ranking some in the top 10 some even in the top 20. Now most of the time these go up and down by a few places. But every so often they drop off the serps all together then re appear in a couple of days. This isn't always down to being penalized it's just the way google works.

When your penalized you normally see all keywords dropping (unless your keyword stuffing perhaps?), or in the worst case scenario being de indexed. If I was you id wait it out a few days and see what's happening the rankings. If your page is still ranking for other keywords then it may be down to your content not being as relevant. Check out your competition.

There is plenty of guides online to tell you how to increase your serps. If everything is showing as being knocked off the serps check your webmaster tools for any notifications if your signed up to it or just do a simple "site:yoururl" and see if it shows off. If not, then now is the time to worry.

    Good luck

Wow thank you guys for all the help! Really appreciate it.

No we can still be found, I also see some ranking improvements for keywords from the same family (e.g. boardgames - family boardgames).

Thats some greate resource, thank you so much. Will definitely go over them.

Yeah I read about that and I hope that is the main reason because I also did some changes on our page with additional content and did some t2 backlinking on forums with dr > 50 so I doubt that that is the reason but I can't tell.

Yeah probably the best tip. We were already outranked so I decided to optimize our content for that one particular keyword. I am starting to thing that it might have something to do with keyword canibalization but can that be the case when I target longtail keywords or keywords of the same family (e.g. family boardgames)?

Could be the case. Google is cracking down on over using of long tail keywords especially like you said coming from the same family. Lets face it it's not natural to write something like that at all. Also over optimizing a keyword can kill your rankings. I tend to just write an article naturally and do majority of the hardwork behind the scenes. PBN's, social links etc.
