I am doing some keyword research but came across a keyword with the Google Adwords keyword tool. It shows this:

Keyword ----- Global Monthly Searches 8,xxx ----- Local Monthly Searches 5,xxx
[Keyword] ----- Global Monthly Searches 210 ----- Local Monthly Searches 110

I am confused on which figures to go by? Global or Local?

Also, what does it mean when a keyword is in brackets? Its the exact keyword on both, just that one of them is in brackets

Local monthly searches are nothing but searches originating from your country.

keyword in brackets is Exact searches per month.

drop that keyword , you wont get any traffic,
The [keyword] is exact search and find somethign that is more than 2000 .
if you choose country US and then hit search , the local shows the number of searches happening in US, which you need to look as well since the cpc might be based on US search.
