Let’s bake a success Pie!
Ingredients:
1. Choose your niche and select a domain name. (remember the importance of “how to” information)
2. Get your site setup properly. (hosting, install, wordpress theme – lots of white space and minimal, settings, plugins, widgets)
3. Order a logo. (think simple)
4. Setup and integrate your social media profiles with your new site. (Pinterest Facebook and Twitter profiles)
5. Each day compile URLs to inspiration posts to use for content/ideas. (Pinterest, ideas from existing large sites, Topsy.com)
6. Start adding content. (Between 1 and 10 posts a day recommended)
7. Build to at least 20 posts. (you want your site to appear established)
8. Activate your monetization strategy and placement. (Adsense/other + ad plugin)
9. Begin marketing your site daily. (repins and status updates by others)
10. Continue daily content posting.
11. Continue daily marketing.
12. Look for trends within your analytics to capitalize on. (see what’s popular on your site and leverage that into more of same)
13. Repeat steps 10, 11 and 12!
14: Once you reach @ $100/day consider hiring more writers/curators to scale UP!
What’s Your Hang Up?
When you look at the above recipe. What is it you are getting the most hung up on? I know for a lot of you, maybe you have never setup a site, so it’s the technical side of things and just getting a site live online that is holding you up.
For others of you, perhaps you have had a handful of small wordpress sites but you just couldn’t seem to gain any traction and steadily increase your earnings.
Or maybe you are someone with a lot of experience, you are making a few dollars a day, maybe even $20+ dollars per day from adsense but you just can’t seem to scale it up to 10X what you are doing now.
For those of you who already have sites, you have to take a really good look at what you are doing and really look at how you can model already existing successful sites.
I can glance at just about any site and instantly rip it apart with 10 to 20 different things that should be changed to improve the site. But you may be kinda blind and “in love” with your current setup too much and afraid of change. It’s time to break down some walls and go at this with fresh eyes!
Four Sites I Model After… Big Picture Stuff
Let’s take a quick minute to talk about a few sites that I personally am modeling after… shelterness.com, universetoday.com, decosit.com and dailycandy.com … Now, these are BIG sites that help keep me focused on the big picture and just how large of a brand you can develop.
The element that unites all these sites is that they are more like newspapers than they are like your typical blog. If you want to grow big, you have to think about ways you can curate OTHER SITES POPULAR CONTENT… just like a newspaper grabs news items from reuters, the associated press and small affiliate news agencies. Another site to look at is Huffington post…. You want to be the Huffington post of your smaller niche!
