"When a user clicks "Regular Download" on any download page they will be given a list of four surveys, as usual, and now one option to use the "Social Downloader", which is colored differently to make it stand out. We renamed it to "Social Downloader" instead of "Viral" on the survey page mostly because "viral" sounds too similar to malware to users who aren't experienced with online marketing, even though they are obviously completed unrelated. When a user chooses this option he is given a special link to spread, which he can then post on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, forums, AIM, etc, to have people visit. By default the user is required to have 5 other people download the file for his to unlock. Every time someone else downloads the file through his link he will see his progress bar and percentage increase until it hits 100%, at which time the file is unlocked automatically. So basically, this tool turns one potential downloader into FIVE actual downloads. And if five isn't enough, you can set the number of downloads the user must refer in your "Profile" page. Besides increasing downloads and helping your links spread virally, this feature serves another important purpose. If there is a user who normally cannot download a file, most likely because he is from a country with little to no offers, he can use this option to unlock the download without needing to fill out a survey or pay a dime. Therefore not only should this help spread your link, but it should also help decrease any complaints you may receive from downloaders." It seems they still want to keep the leading position amongst the paid-to-upload sites!
