So, if you're a regular user of Instagram you've probably stumbled upon some of Justin Bieber's post of the "Explore"-page lately. Well, I believe he is doing one of the biggest social media marketing campaigns ever done (music wise, at least). So everyday he posts 2-3 pictures with a big Instagrammer (and famous people overall) with 500K-10M+ followers holding a sign saying "Justin Bieber. What Do You Mean? *days left until release*"

    Here are an example:

So, for the last month (I believe) he have posted 2-3 pictures a day - that's 60-90 pictures promoting his new single (or album or whatever it is). I find it really interesting that he uses such a big marketing method for just his social media and I am excited to see if he breaks his other records by this campaign or not.

To my knowledge, this is the biggest social media marketing campaign ever (that are non-paid).

Let me clarify, I believe that all these huge stars actually did it either because they are under the same labels, know each other or want publicity on their own - or maybe a mixture of all of it. I don't think this is the biggest campaign using paid advertisement (PPC or paying celebs a fortune to market their product/service), but this technique is definitely interesting.

What do you think, do you think this technique will work in his favors or will it just be annoying to all of his followers? If this methods becomes a huge hit, are we about to see more campaigns like this from Justin Bieber and many other people? Wouldn't that hurt more than it would do good as Instagram would turn into a promoting mess (which it is already, but only to a certain extent).

Interested to see others opinions about this!

It's definitely going to work, he's getting his upcoming single/album in front of tens of millions of people. I've already looked in to this however and not every user who holds the sign is posting it on their account so he's not getting quite as much as exposure as you might think but he's definitely getting a s*** ton!

Justin Bieber would still be America's finest if he didn't get all those etch-a-sketch tattoos, some of them are cool but I think he went overboard with it. I'm not one of his slews of haters though, I can't even imagine being brought up in that type of life. If I was him, I'd get a buzz cut and retire somewhere without the influence of American media where no one knew my name. Forget that, he has more than enough money to last 10 lifetimes.

That's nothing a little photoshop magic can't fix - at least for generating an image of Ariana Grande holding up promo material for you or your website. Of course the real value is all the side action of being IG'd and tweeted or FB'd all over the place.

I rarely visit Facebook so I didn't know this, but it just goes to show how big of a campaign it is.

I mean, this forum is slightly marketing related - right? I guess it could get some peoples' head spinning on a twist for small businesses or just interesting to see how it goes (now that it is a week before release). I will for sure watch closely if/when he hit some sort of records from this campaign.

If you aren't too close-minded you could may be get a nice twist out of it. I believe it is quiet interesting to see if it really was worth spamming social medias for a month or not in the end. And if it becomes his most successful campaign, will we see more of this from him and other artists? I guess it could turn into a promotion fest on Instagram that would make it unbearable.

Only time will tell, I guess. :)

Noticed this a couple days ago. Fans would be more likely to view it as a comeback rather than promotion. And as a marketer, I think it's very intelligent. He's sending 49 individual lines of his lyrics to his "superfans".

So think about the effect that will have. You're a diehard fan of Beiber and Beiber sends you a text tweet that says, "I love you <3" with a pic including the line to his lyrics that is unreleased.

As a fan, you're going apeshit. But there's much more happening here.

That person who gets the 10th line is contacting the person with the 9th line who's contacting the 8th the 7th, etc as they all gloat and piece together the song while repeatedly sharing it on their accounts. So everytime he sends out a lyric he's dropping little h bombs on social media. An outsider may not see this but this is what's effectively happening.

What's so powerful is the loyalty, compassion and consistency. All these starstruck idiots will go crazy till the last day / last clue.

Then the song will drop. And I'd bet my ass he's hitting some records in those first 24 hours.

Even if the song is shit you're gonna have all these fans defending him on social media. Just cause Beiber contacted them. It gives these idiots an excuse to believe, "I'm a friend of a friend of Beiber". They'll tell all their friends. Just cause they're subscribed to 1 idiot who got 1 message from Beiber.

That's the absurdity of teenage loyalty. They're the "prey" of our society. It's been going on since big tobacco, coal mining... hell, even the days of slavery. Slave masters always went for the kids first just to trap the parents. Crazy shit.

The worrying part is... it's not only the youth/teens that exemplifies the 'idiots' that you've mentioned.

I meant it seems too niche specific to actually work for the majority of stuff its more of something you keep in marketing ideas for later use. I could see this working on a smaller scale for a local band or singer but it seems that most niches couldn't really take advantage of IG like this.

Oh damn, I didn't know they did that as well. I just saw the explore page on Instagram with some famous celebs holding a sign so I was like "What is this now? Some new TIDAL shit?" but quickly realized it was Bieber (his crew obviously) that did some crazy campaign.

I don't really hang around social media except Instagram, so I didn't really know about the other networks, thanks for enlightening me!
