Really got no one else in the outside world to share this news with who will understand.

I got into IM after researching ways to get my songwriting and eventual band some more exposure online a couple of years ago. We flogged demo's and press releases everywhere and played a few showcases. Recently (last six months) I got into IM in a big way (outside the music/band promotion niche) and it started flying (PPC, affiliate campaigns etc.).

Anyway tonight, totally out of the blue I got a call from a major label in the UK asking us to come and talk about signing on for a 4 album deal. I was really tempted as that has been my ultimate dream for YEARS, but I'm just so hooked on IM these days that my priorities have really changed I suppose, and this was the real "ah-ha" moment when I blurted out without thinking "sorry, I'm running my own business now and this is what I want to do with my life."

Guess I'm really in it now for the long haul.

Big thanks to all the BHW folks for everything. This forum has really been life changing.

From an ex-wannabe rock star - Big thanks to you all

Wow, both are great news!!

It's too bad you couldn't do one on a part time effort, or maybe even automated IM (if that's possible).

Glad to hear of your news!!

Oh I'll still play music - once the bug bites you can never leave! But I'm cool with it as a hobby nowadays, the internet changed everything, this is the winning horse to jump on these days I reckon. Van Halen may have had a private jet in the '80s but it's the IM dudes that are affording that kinda stuff now. Amazing that the common thread is guitar playing and surfing that seems to be the "guru" hobbies (Ed Dale, Frank Kern etc.) - I was dreaming of both before discovering internet marketing. Irony hey!

I think you should of taken the deal, got your albums, released one, become famous, then released the second early on warez websites, then use a bit of PPI and make $$!

Nah but seriously, fair play mate, go with what you want to do, go with your dreams, if you think you can make it in the IM game, go for it, don't let anything hold you back :)

Sorry but ...thats insane , ive spent the last few years working in and around the music business in the UK and know how hard it is to land a record deal, you should really bthink twice, its once in a lifetime stuff that.

IM is addicting trust me I know but surely its taught you that to make any real money in life you should be adaptable and have more than one revenue stream...

I do hope you reconsider xxx

All good but there are no (female) groupies in IM....

I'm not sure the 'deal' seemed that great to you otherwise i can't see why you would turn it down. IM should become like the whore you put to the side when a nicer lady comes along in the form of a record deal :)

I hear ya guys! was a really tough call. But I've been studying the music biz for years, it's nothing like what's reported in mainstream media. The money's not there anymore and your 15 min of fame will not pay the advance a record label will give you. A decent high-traffic site will, plus you own the rights. Time's are changing. (Plus I'm a bit older now - late 20's and you shelf life in music is a lot shorter than a well ranked site). It's a hard call - money, or a bit of fun for maybe 18 months!

I totally understand being a musician myself with similar goals initially. If you're extremely lucky and extremely rare the music biz can make you rich and most of those people say that's where the trouble begins. Even the rich ones say that. They are not in control and they are pimped brutally and creativity is compromised. IM can make you better than rich. It can make you wealthy, you retain control and there's less effort so it redefines our goals. :) croixstar IS a Rockstar! All successful IMers are!

Dude there's a thing called "The Genius of AND vs. the tryanny of OR."

Do both. Ask yourself better questions:

"How can I pursue my dreams of success in the music business AND IM and have fun doing it?"

"How can I use my record deal to make my IM career even more successful?"

"How can I leverage what I learned in IM to make my music career even more successful?"

LMAO This has got to be one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen. If you were to be signed you would get at least an 100K advance just for signing - tell me have you made 100K from IM yet? Besides that you will be flown tons of places expense free and will freely record music which is what you love - and they will push / market the hell out of you. If your band was any decent and got some album sales you would still be making a significant amount of easy money - doing what you love. I hope you call that major label back.

I too am a Musician, and if you had your music to the level that you wanted to you should have said yes to the deal. Like who knows really, everything is a crap shot, but to me it sounds like you just turned down some money.

I wish you all the best with IM, and hopefully you will not regret it.

Got to say, thats one good way to tell yourself where your priorities are!

My plan for the longest time (and still is) is to get my music to the level that I want first, then release myself. Now I plan on using IM to pursue the goal of travelling and playing music around the world.

Either or, cant blame you really, considering I think we all know how addictive IM is!

Cheers.

IM over a record deal? Am I the only one here that thinks you are completely insane?

i would've taken the record deal and work IM as part time.

not that i dont like IM, but i just love spitting in the booth if you know what i mean.

You only get limited opportunity at music fame - the internet and IM is still going to be there forever...........

Hope you can live your life regretting and wondering what if?
