This morning when i checkd my mailbox i found a letter containing a check for 9,500 euros and it does not say from where it is or for what it is for.

It is a BNP Paribas check.

Did something like that ever happen to anyone here or does anyone know which affiliate network is sending checks from that bank?

I called the bank and they said that i have to know who sent me that check.

does the sender want you to cash the check and send them money? if so, probably a scam.

It is issued on my name and details are also the ones i use. Adress and everything is a match. But it does not say who sent it or for what it is. It does have an account number though. I scanned it and sent it like an hour agou to the bank where i am supposed to get it from so that they can check it's validity.

I also did not recieve any messages about some fees that i have to pay in order to get this....so i don't know...i thought something like that ight have happened to somone on this forum that's why i was asking.

Here is also the attachement from it

I second that, this has happened to me once back at around 2001 , except the check was from Bank of America and had my name on it. ( smaller amount tough ) It cleared fine as said, but after a month and a half I got a nice letter from my bank that i owe them the amount cashed + some additional fees, totaling almost twice as much as the original sums. Nobody ever contacted me about this, so this could have been a mistake or something, but i'm sure it wasn't a scam since no one ever contacted me about it.

You should definiately try selling the check or think about something else but DO NOT cash it, it's too risky. In the end this money will be missing from somewhere and shit flows downhill or so they say... so you'll have to pay it back IF it can be traced back to you.

"Real monies don't just appear" - well said.

So, find a way to sell it, but DO NOT cash it in a bank.
    Good luck :)

Unless you know where it comes from I imagine it will be one of those cheques that you cash then someone comes round to your house asking for his money back. When you explain its in the bank they will say thats cool just give us 5k and we call it quits. Couple days later the cheque bounces and you are out 5k.

Happens with cars on auto trader all the time. Be very careful with this kind of thing it will more than likely be a scam unless you can attribute it to a family member or customer that owes you this money. The round figure sorta makes me think it isnt from online commissions.

    Be very careful.

Yeah, just go to a check-cashing place (literally one of those places that says "Cash Checks", etc.) and do the deed. They'll take a good amount of it, but you'll be scot-free afterward and a bounced check won't do shit.

Or, if you live in/near New York City, there's a US branch of BNP Paribas there where you can take the check and I'm sure they'll be quite open to checking out the legitimacy of the check for you. If they say it's good, you're in the clear.

    Two options:

    1. Ask your bank to verify if it is legit
    2. Cash it in, but not in your bank

Call Paribas Agency 02550 from your check and ask for legitimacy.

    I'm French and I'm a BNP Customer.
First : There is not "à rédiger exclusivement en euro" and the big € at top-right of the check.
BNP Paribas is not writed at bottom-right
Sometimes the font is not the same.
Maybe there is different sort of check so I can't affirm that, but I think it's a fake.
