Just wanted to tell everyone here that I got my first actual PRE-PAYING local business internet marketing client today!

I am very excited and am running my keyword research as I type this.

I will meet with him tomorrow to get my check!

This is a local small-time home remodeling contractor.

He just paid $500 for a very crappy landing page and a google pay-per-click account with a extremely limited budget, keyword campaign, by a company called WebVisible.(google "webvisible scam")

This company won't even tell him how much of the $500 per month actually goes to paying for clicks and how much they take.

He e-signed a contract for $530 per month with these clowns and begged me to help him here and said he has no problem spending $500 a month to someone he can talk to and help him understand where his money is going.

I just wanted to share my good fortune with you guys considering this site provided me with a lot of knowledge and resources to help me. I am so grateful and will be a paying member here very soon!

    THANKS TO ALL!

    Great work!

How did you land this client? Did he find you online or did you meet him in person first?

Well a little by luck, but I have been consistently telling everyone I talk to about my business.

I actually answered a help wanted ad on CL for a local delivery service that wanted a home-based order taker, and I am laid-off right now drawing a VERY small UI check every week(just enough to pay bills) so any extra money is welcome.

I mentioned a few simple things the owner of that biz could do to improve her website and next thing I know she has her son(the contractor) 3-wayed on the phone so I can ask him some questions. He already felt like he was getting ripped, but I didn't have to focus on that. I just asked intelligent questions about what he wanted(duh...more clients), what they asked him and what they were doing for him (he really had no idea). He was just excited that, when you search for "xxx...keywords" he showed up at the top of google!!...well he was in one of the top 3 sponsored links(pay-per-click). I told him that anyone with $50.00 in a Google adwords account can do that and they take advantage of people that don't know any better. Not becuase they are stupid...but because their genius is in their field - always remind them of their genius!)

Basically he knew he was getting fucked and I just (subtlety - let him connect the dots)confirmed it for him.

    A little about me:

I just turned 40 in December, I am a life-long study of marketing. I really know more about marketing then anything else. I bought my first get-rich-quick book through the mail from a newspaper ad when I was 13. I really am passionate about this and it shows when I talk to people.

My dad was an auto worker for GM and my brother is a concrete worker, so I know how to talk to local contractors.

I lived and worked in a major college town for 16 years of my life(hey I took 2 college classes while there!), so I have learned how to talk to educated folk too.

I have actually paid my bills by local marketing(mostly free CL ads) generating leads for others that advertised in the same place(I am better at marketing...many of them have made it clear that they hate me).

I can talk to clients like I am an old buddy(without trying to do that), I TRULY want to help others(I always loved the underdog), and I really like people.

I can relate to a complete loser or even the son of a multi-millionaire(he currently works for the Yankee's...lucky bastard) as I have actually known both extreme's of social classes - several times over the course of my life.

    OK...I am rambling here.

LOL did I answer your question....?
