I'm kind of a noob at this.

How do I transfer my files to & from my VPS so I can install software & start blasting away.

I'm on a mac running CoRD to windows VPS.

    Thanks

Dropbox is a pretty easy method to transfer from your computer to VPS; ftp is easy too.

Is it obvious I don't use windows vps for much other than running software? :) Ask me to run a site on a windows vps and I'd have to go look it up.

setup ftp server on the vps and you can connect/transfer anytime, anywhere with an ftp client
I use bulletproof ftp server for this, you can get a free copy at any warez or torrent site

Dropbox is a great thing which will help you.

Install DB on both your desktop and VPS and share a folder.

    As simple as that

dropbox is good, else you can use an ftp software to transfer the files. You can even copy and paste the files from a pc to your vps through RDC, i do it all the time.

    another alternative :

install filezilla within your VPS, upload files from your computer to your web host then connect to your web host using filezilla from your VPS. it looks like :

Your computer => Web Host => Vps

    I haven't try Dropbox yet...

I'm using a NAS hard drive with a FTP access.

Like any ftp you can plug it into the "Computer" windows where you have hard drive.

You just need to right click on the windows and select add a network location.

Then you plug something like :

\\ip\folder and you will have it as an external harddrive which is quite convenient.
