I just finished writing a business plan and am about to pass it along to my (hopefully) investor, but I need some advice..... Since I have not registered my business name yet, should I leave out the name? I'm thinking it should be fine, but then again, some people will troll and steal the name if they like it.....

I wouldn´t write it. Replace the name for "the website".

A business plan isn't seen or verified by the state or anything... depending on the state, the investor can see who owns the business, but really, I don't think he will go that far. If you have plans to form a business after you get funds, then include the business name. Like someone else said, just call it the website name. your business name could be something else.

For example, xyzswebsite.com is owned by congomlerated shoes inc. Make sense?

In other words, it's not a detail that I would think too much on.

If you're really worried about it, just run down to your local courthouse and register as a sole proprietor, get a fictitious name statement or a DBA, and call it that. It's usually around 20 bucks.

    Best of luck!

Don't spend your money. When Google got the first cheque they hadn't had a company!

If you agree with investor about investment it may take 3-6 monthes to get the money. You'll have a lot of time to register a company.

Only when opening an account do they need some "name." It's how it went with my bank. edit: i used "My Name" as my name before actually making a name, bank was ok with it. edit edit: the name can always be changed, but it's good to have one and these days might be requisite for the bank's confidence in your plan, cause name's are fundamental.

If the name is what's stressing you out the most, Congratulations :)

    Hope all goes well!

i would just go get the name, registering a business will cost under $100, and by buying it your investor will see that you are serious.

Will your plan work with a particular business name only?
