How do I do this? He wants to push the domain to my godaddy account. I don't have hosting on godaddy, I have it on namecheap, so obviously that's where I want it. I also bought a new domain for the site and it's on my hosting account on namecheap.

He has sent me the .rar file for the site but I don't really know how to upload it to my account through cpanel (ie wht folder to put it in, do I install WP first, etc)

Can I upload all the files to my hosting/domain and then when he pushes the old domain over to me on godaddy, I can just redirect it to the new domain?

How does all this work? Sorry I'm a newb at this stuff.

    Any help is appreciated.

IT doesnt matter that u use namecheap, just create a godaddy account and he will push it for free to there, to transfer registrar ( like to push from namecheap to godaddy) takes longer and its just useless....
after he transfers the domain u need to find a hosting and copy the files and then change the dns (unless its wordpress and then u need to transfer the database + the files and only then transfer the dnss to your hosting)

im sure the person who sold it to u knows how to do it u can just ask him for help or if the site is big and you suppose to earn a lot of money from it u can just pay your own hosting and they will install the site and set it up with the .rar he sent.

but first of all get the domain pushed to your godaddy account......the site will still work.

Was there something wrong with the domain name you bought?

Changing the domain name is likely to affect to your site rankings and you maybe shouldn't doing it unless you know what you are doing.

There was nothing wrong with the domains (I bought two different sites and two different domains).

One was a .info and the .com was available so I grabbed it. The other was off by a letter and it made about a 130k search difference ... so I bought the one with the correct spelling.

Ok.. so the domain has been pushed to my account and I put a redirect on the old domain to go to the new domain.

I uploaded the database to my new hosting (attached to new domain) and it seemed to work... like I could edit the site and everything in WP... but when I went to the NEW domain, it gave me a blank page, and when I went to the old domain, it was still working. And to go a step further... when I hit "visit site" or "view site" or whatever it is in your wordpress dashboard to see your site... it took me to the .info (the old domain) and not the .com (the new domain).

Any idea how to fix this? I feel like I'm close to figuring it all out but I need a little bit of help for the final few steps.

Give it a time. When you change nameservers sometimes it's not happening for few hours, even a day. It even depends where you accessing it from.

I've got a domain that in some search engines and servers comes up as it would 3 years ago, with bland fresh WP install. Even though it's got a content and indexed and ranked in G (USA) nowadays.
