You are looking for a Local SEO, and not an "SEO expert".

Google search results are divided into 3 sections.

    1) Top of the page = Google Ad-words ads (paid)
    2) Local Search results (also called the "7-pack")
    3) Organic search results (everything else, not geography specific)

Local SEO is a different animal than Organic. A guy that can get "Penis Enlargement Pills" to rank at the top of the organic results is not necessarily qualified to rank "Atlanta Roofing" within the local search results. Some can, most can't, and most of those that can't say they can. I'm looking just these evening at this COLOSSAL CLUSTERFUCK some BHW (organic) SEO sold another BHW member that owns a local business. Every WRONG thing that could have been done to this guy has been done, and he has paid money to get screwed over like this. I haven't asked who did it or how much they got paid because I don't want to know. I'm just saying that you can drop some serious $$ on a guy that truly believes he knows what he is doing and he's simply completely wrong and he won't be there for you to clean up them mess if Google deindexes or demotes your site, so this is not a casual decision to make. There are a few Local SEO specialists here and none of them will disagree with anything that I post here, as at your stage of the game you are at basic level, which is pretty much the same for everyone, all businesses, all niches, all citys.

There are two kinds of SEO.

    1) On page = how, and how many times your keywords are placed on your website
    2) Off page = how many backlinks from other websites are linking to you, what the quality of those backlinks are, what anchor text is used and how the backlink structure is created. Link pyramid is all you need to know. Ignore the words "link wheels", "link farms" and "reciprocal backlinking"

As far as off-page SEO goes, the only thing you need to pay attention to are Local Citations. Everything else is intermediate to advanced level and you don't need to know about that yet.

Social Media is for the most part it's own standalone entity. There is some value to social media to ranking your local website, but mostly it's for driving/funneling customers from local media (twitter, FB, etc...) to your website on the hope that they convert.

In general, you need one overarching philosophy to keep in mind at the beginning stage.

    1) Do faster over more time consuming.
    2) Do cheaper or free before paid or expensive
    3) Do easy before difficult
    4) Do safer before risky

Small businesses are all the same. They have the same needs and a limited budget. The above is how to best service any local business. Do those SEO methods that are faster, cheaper, easier and less risky first, before experimentally trying that which is more time consuming, more expensive, more difficult and present more risk.

Anyone that tells you anything other than the above does not have your best interests at heart. You don't sell a standing-seam metal roof to a retired couple living on a fixed income. You don't create some monstrously large abortion of an SEO architecture for a guy that's just a roofer. There's a local, neighborly common-sense dynamic that most organic SEO's completely fail to appreciate. They regard deindexing and demotion as just a cost of doing business WHEN IT'S THEIR WEBSITES. They adopt that same cavalier attitude when selling themselves to local businesses who depend on that business to pay their mortgage.

While i agree with part of this i do not with the other and its funny you say Atlanta I am in Atlanta and I have ALOT of Atlanta videos on page one spot 1 that i did a test on and never did anything else
    as my primary is CPA.
If you know SEO you can rank local alot easier then you can Penis Pills etc
If he wants someone to get him ranked tell them to put there money where there mouth is Tell him to pm me what term in atlanta he wants ranked and I will put a video together and rank it with out him giving me a dime

I've done plenty of local seo and its mostly a lot easier than ranking products
it all depends on your city and the competition

    Keyword research
generally you should find about 10 keywords
    for your city
This is about the average, bigger cities may have more
though you will find iver time people coming to your site with the weirdest of keywords
this is why your articles must have plenty of lsi keywords

Keep keyword density at about 1%

Dont blast your site with any software
Build all your 1st tier links manually

Citations are probably the most important thing
    Drip feed them
2 or 3 a day of the most important ones

    when writing articles
Put in all your business details
Don.t apply to google places till you have at least 30 citations
Facebook business page and twitter account

Slow and steady is the way to go, starting with the easiest keywords
Its a business, and you dont need 100s of clients
    to start with,

    So rather than recommending anyone,
im telling you to run away form anybody who wants to rank you
    in a month,
    Unless there is 0 competition

If you want I can give you some tips free of charge
PM when you have 15 posts

Send me a PM when you get to 15 posts. I provide free, one-on-one conversation with local business owners as time allows for it via Skype. I have a network of local business owners and local SEO's and we consult with each other regularly. Others are invited. It's free and it's open. You can DIY, you can hire me, you can hire someone else, whatever. It's not that difficult, however it takes about 2 months for the basic concepts to sink in.

The first thing I would advise you to do is learn about two things:

    1) Local Citations
    2) NAP consistency

SEO is for the most part a course of self-study. You have to figure it out on your own, by doing local BHW searches, Google searches and a lot of reading, with the occasional question to ask a mentor, peer or in a thread here on BHW. I recommend all Local SEO threads start off titled "Local SEO", so that anyone that wants to learn Local SEO can do a search of that exact text and then have all the BHW threads on that topic immediately available, vs. having to wade through 15 post before finding a nugget.

nugget: Noun In BHW/Internet Marketing terminology, a "nugget" is a small, isolated piece of information that is possibly, probably or definitely useful for the purpose of "learning SEO" with the ultimate objective of making money. A nugget is always a piece of a larger whole; a body of information that can be thought of as a jigsaw puzzle, with the nugget (referencing gold, as it has monetary value) fits neatly into the unfinished puzzle, with the idea that, once the puzzle is complete, the finder will have a means of making more money.

    I don't know http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Kiedis, and that's a rather random question.

Funny thing how this thread turned out to be a regular thread in the "Blackhat SEO" section where everyone is trying to help.

This thread is in the "Hire a freelancer" section and I believe, it's better left in the hands of buyers and sellers.

I think there should be a rule (like Shitlist rule #4):
"If you are not a buyer or a seller stay away from this section."
